need advice

i have just built a 36inch span auw about 24 oz model from a free plan. not a pylon racer by any means but will be fast enough for me at the moment. just maidened and it flies well and not checked out the all out speed yet but the advice i need is regarding which prop. the motor is a mega 16/15/3 and i flew it with a 6x4 prop, is this the correct prop to use and also when i came in to land i broke the prop so would it be better with a folding prop are can you use a prop saver going at these speeds. thank you for any advice.

The 16/15/3 on 3 cell LiPo likes a 5X5 APC for speed. The 6X4 is a good first flight prop to test the plane as you get more thrust for an easier launch.

The prop saver is not practical for a high rpm application.

You could do a small folder but they are less efficient.

The key to not breaking props is landing speed.
Obviously the slower the better.

yes i agree, where i flew this morning was not the ideal spot and did not get chance to test the slow flying with this model . hopefully going to try again at our much better flying field this evening. by the way this model as not got a colour scheme yet, what are the best colours for orientation regarding fast and small flying models,

second flight this evening and what a great flyer. really fast and with it being a balsa model with no reinforcement to the wings (quarter inch balsa) flat plate i must be really carefull regarding high-g turns. i must get a colour scheme before my next fight. may be jumping the gun a little butwhat would be the next model i should be looking at regarding speed around 100mph plus and would be able to handle high speed turns.bearing in mind iam not a experienced pylon racer but am looking to gain some experience regarding flying fast models.

How about a Simprop Turn Left?

The colours are not so important, we all have our different favourites at the end of the day. What I find important is some sort of contrasting colours, such as a large white strip on one wing and the top and bottom surfaces being different.

Having said that I flew someone's 1500W FunJet the other day which was a dayglow orange, made it really easy to see. Having the sun on your back helps too.

Are you coming to the Nats to see some real speed machines?

That's why they invented the credit card?
You're going to spend that money at some point anyway....and you can't take it with you in the end.

It's a good event, lots to see and do. - Come and say hello.
Have you seen our website?

Not sure if these are discontinued now, but I have one with the afore mentioned Mega 16/15/3, and whilst it will never win any competions it is fast enough to keep me on my aged toes.

Glenbees, what is the plane you've made and do you have any pics? I have the 'Slipso' on my building board (also a solid balsa wing) and it looks like it will be significantly quicker than the T.L..

darron, is the nats this weekend or next weekend, actually got some money to spend as i have just sold a couple of models that i dont seem to fly. it is burning a hole in my pocket at the moment. you cant take it with you, also my words at the moment. ben-d-wing the model is tim hoopers gonzales which was a free plan about 2 years ago in quiet flight mag. straight forward build with box type fus and flat plate wings. will try and upload a picture if you want. i downloaded the slipso 400 plans a while back but seemed to small for me, as anybody increased the span that you know of.

Weekend After this - 29th Aug.

We fly saturday 1pm to 6pm
Sunday from 8am to 12pm
Monday from 11am to 2pm
- Normally....from memory.

We also have to alternate between judging and flying so ask if you can't see us.

It is true that the Turn Left has been discontinued - but I'm sure if you do a bit of calling around you'll find someone who has it in stock.

Not sure if you mentioned, but is brake enabled on the ESC? That will help with prop breakage.

Some airframes won't fly as well on a 5x5 vs a 6x4, as they are too draggy. It takes a clean airframe to fly well on a 5x5, and even cleaner for a 4.7x4.7 (which can be faster still once the model gets going)..
