Yahoo group for Tom Senior?

Anyone know if there's a Yahoo (or other) group or mail list for Tom Senior
owners?

Why not just use this newsgroup as much of the content will be of interest
to many of us.
Also I'd have thought that it would be too specialised to get much traffic.

Cheers

Seems to be too specialised a subject to get much traffic even here, Hywel. I've
had very little luck with info so far. The reason I asked about Yahoo discussion
groups is that there are already a number of thriving groups there dealing with
individual brands of lathes and mills - Boxford, Centec and Atlas for instance.
If I sensed there was a lot of interest in Senior products, I'd set one up
myself.

I would be interested in knowing the whereabouts of a Centec list - I
haven't found one yet.

My apologies Jim. I've been back to Yahoo and it looks like the Centec group I
saw in the list is for something else called Centec - don't know what it is as
the description isn't in English. :-(

Having said that Jim, why don't you just create one yourself? It's easy - I've
just spent the last ten minutes setting one up for Tom Senior owners (see my
other post).

Agreed, it's quick and easy. Traffic may be slow at first but hang in
there.

There is a list for Drummond lathes, which went out of production around
50 years ago. It took a while to get off the ground, but it's up to over
90 members now, and has proved valuable in putting heads together to
solve puzzles, find spare parts, get a (limited so far) range of
castings made, and even manufacturing spare changewheels, thanks to the
generosity of our Cynical Trader(tm).

I expect the Tom Senior list will be just as useful...

Jim, Why not talk Centec's here. I don't think it would be inappropriate.
I'd be interested - might even have something to contribute. ;-)

I wasn't really desperately looking for somewhere to talk about
Centecs - it was just that Neil referred to a Centec list earlier in
this thread that made me get interested.

Mine is working fine at the moment, but I feel the great need to put
some digital readouts on it since the backlash on the leadscrews makes
positioning a bit difficult in some cases.

Any suggestions for a cheap and dirty digital readout setup?

Jim,

I got a reasonable deal on a heidenhain a good few years back. A factory
exchange display unit and new scales to fit my machine for a model that was
about to go extinct. I fitted them myself - straightforward but care neeed.

I reckon I got a good deal on a top quality unit and it has given me 16 years
faultless service so far.

I went though an agent in the Bournemouth area - see
http://www.heidenhain.co.uk/distrib.shtml

Bear in mind that a DRO is not a cure for worn feedscrews. When you are taking
heavy cuts the table can still move. The DRO will tell you it has moved but not
prevent the cause.
(Aplogies if you already know this!)

regards

Bob
