Its a start let see how it goes, using PIC32, have lot of power. I am thinking if I can design OSD with GPS under US$ 70.00, what you think with USB or RS232 interface with multiple parameter pages.

Most of the suppliers are selling data logger, gps and OSD as different units as well as sensor, kind of if u add all its over US$275 - 300. Its way over the cost.

Let me know what is the best way, the way they are doing modular and charging more money or put all in one, just GPS outside.

Data logger is noting but a main micro with EEPROM to store the GPS parameters and sensor values. It can be download to PC by USB or COM. Kind of same unit is programming the OSD chip.

Note: Any input will be good.

I am checking what PIC32 board need to order,

1) MAX7456 OSD board is all done, I have 4 working one, share with testers.
2) Current/Volatge measuring need to do.
3) Air speed board is all done.
4) GPS parsing function in C are all done.
5) PIC32 board and debugger I need to order and put EEPROM to store parameters.
6) Visual C++ PC program is kind of 50 % done.

I think you will get working one prototype in month and half. With GPS we are talking about $60 to $70 for testers. The best thing is that if you know C you can program PIC32 and use my code as base and make your own.

I've only studied C# a little, no C or C++ for me, shouldn't be too hard to figure out if you already have something working

I have to code written year back, you can understand it, its modular, OSD have it own c and .h file, GPS parsing have it own c and .h file same for air speed and com's. Kind of not very good written but good to go. I am Engineer and want to learn from you all and try to teach if I know some thing. Knowledge sharing is a good thing if I will not let u know u will learn from some where else any way. Some of my friends make Cruise missile in around 2 years using Virtex-3 with DSMAC with pin point of 10 meters, I am so behind when I compare my self with them. We are here to make world better.

PIC32 has a lot of available power, so it is all up to your skills. But man I find this quote kinda odd:

Guys u can not make cruise missile with DSMAC by PIC, it was just an example that technology is not a thing you can hide for long time. We all can learn and make things but the key is learning on regular basis.

Part list for OSD (Cost will be under US$100 or may be around US$70 with the GPS)

I am using MAX7456 AlamTech OSD board and my ATMEGA48 board with LS20033/31 GPS. Instead of using ATMEGA48, I am using ATMEGA328.

Here is the part list.

1) LS20031 GPS
2) Voltage/Current indicator board
3) MAX7456 OSD BOARD.

Here is the snap of all the parts I am using. All programming will be in C/C++.

If some one interested they can buy parts from

MAX7456 OSD BOARD
http://thesiliconhorizon.com/store/a...oard-p-78.html

Voltage/Current Monitor
http://thesiliconhorizon.com/store/a...play-p-93.html

GPS
You can get GPS from me, pm me or email me at fakhre@rocketmail.com

Note: Cost will be under US$100 or less, may be around US$70 with the GPS.

Thanks.

Low cost OSD project based on ATMEGA328 and MAX7456 OSD chip

I just ordered ATMEGA328 from www.digikey.com, firmware will test on simulator 1st then on chip. It will based on MAX7456 chip, low cost solution.

Note: If any one interested in programming in C or development for this project get back to me, email me at fakhre@rocketmail.com or PM me.

Note: Developer can buy stuff from sparkfun, digikey, it a open source project.

Thanks.
