What he said

There are a few quirks here and there but nothing that can't be overcome by asking the people on this thread and with some creative programming.

One thing, this radio has a completely different programming paradigm. If at first you don't get it, that's OK, just ask questions and persevere. Once it finally "clicks" you will never be able to go back to programming a radio the "old fashioned way"

Regards,

- Birger

I have never heard of any brown out issues or voltage issues with Futaba. I only run A123 receiver batteries, so I don't expect any issues.

You'll love it. BTW - not sure where you fly, but there are very knowledgeable Futaba folks in the Valley. Tony Q. at SVF is a good guy. Darwin Barrie in Chandler is on Team Futaba and a wizard with the 8FG now. And a few others. Don't be timid about reaching out if you wants some good solid info.

I have my 8FG now for two yrs also. Bullet proof link on all types of battery. I'm really quite amazed at how good this bit of kit is.

There is a learning curve to the programming so please accept the following advise: Do a google search for "Malcolm Holt Futaba 8FG supplementary notes". Use this with your manual and you will understand what the function does and why it could be useful. Without it you may be a bit lost in the dessert for a while

We DO have a large number of FAQ's on programming the 8FG here:

http://www.futaba-rc.com/faq/faq-8fg-2_4ghz.html

There's one about just the programming philosophy and others on specific programming topics. Just check them out.

Bax,

Is there any way I can get a new hard copy manual for the 8FGS Airplane version?

Warm Regards,

I am not so happy with your customer service.
I took the radio out, range tested it got ten paces before I lost connection.
I slowly adjusted the screw. I now have 50 paces, on power down mode, and on full power mode, i can get so far that I can't even see the model anymore.
And you wanted me to send it in and pay $20 shipping plus $40/hr plus $100 board (possibly) plus another $20 shipping to do something even a non-tech savvy person can do.
Not a happy customer here.
I just thought I'd let you know my opinions.
Alex
Just sent that to Futaba Cs.
I made a dumb move and accidentally turned the RF calibration screw. They wanted me to send it in, pay $40 for labor, $100 for a new board when all I needed to do it put my receiver with a servo and batt with my sister on the driveway and range test. Slowly adjusted my screw until I got back to normal.
See, now its much more economical to bribe your sister with blackmail rather than cough up $150

He's referring to the crank used to wind the rubber band on an escapement radio system. I'm assuming since he has 3200 posts he probably wrote that in the 1950s and some glitch in the RCGroups system led to it appearing here in 2012.

I wonder it that wasn't a pot for signal strength or gain

Don't think 2.4 radio having a RF tuning pot, especially a multi frequency devic with solid state electroni signal generatorS(?)

Alex,

The one on the right is a pic of my RF board I posted on your other thread, match yours to that one. I don’t think that is for rf signal. The way it is I can walk more than 120 paces in range check mode, and I have tested to more than 1.5 miles on regular mode without loosing signal.

Doug.
