So you will have the full 5 amps available up to the voltage limit of the ESC that you select.

A few questions... first you referenced 5 amps of servo power... did you mean 5 volts? If it is 5 volts, why 5 volts, why that number? Servos like the HS-65s are rated at 4.8v or 6v. With 5v being the default is there any problems associated with going up to 6v to get the max out of the servo? Is 4.8v close enough to 5v and thats why 5v was chosen?

These look awesome btw... I'm flying a 38oz bird now that I fried my PHX45 on its first flight (grumble, grumble, piss, moan) luckily I was able to get it down for a 'carrier' landing. Ripped out the landing gear and all the wood where they mounted. Luckily it was fixable though. Unfortunately the PHX45 seems to be toast. It got hot enough to melt the solder where the motor leads attached and melted the shrink plastic around the controller. Sucks big time... oh and it also toasted the Scorpion motor (3026-10 on an APC 13x4E) but that may have been from my **ahem** landing. By all accounts, including a WattsUP check before flight the motor/prop/esc combo should have been fine. So I've got another motor on it (Scorpion 3014-16 with 13x4E) and another PHX45 but it is running at about 51A and the PHX45 comes down quite warm, too warm for my comfort level especially after my other flight. So I'm looking at either a new motor (more efficient but same or more power) or a bigger ESC. The 75A ICE is looking like a very nice option.

Any drawbacks to running the 100A ICE over the 75A even though my plane is only running at 55A? I'd like to get the 100A which will give me upward flexibility for bigger planes.

Thx,
Ken

Ken,

Factory default is set at 5V. You can reset from 5V to 7V with the "Castle Link".

Go with the 100 since the size and weight are the same as the 75.

BTW: You will need the "Castle Link" to access the logging functions.

Wire Size

I need to know the wire size for the ICE 75 Lite and ICE 100 Lite. I have an application that is weight critical.

Dear Guys,

I would like to buy CC Ice in my Trex 500.
Which one do you recommend for me 50A or 75A?
I have Scorpion HK3026-1600KV with 13 pinion in my Rex.

Thank for your help.

I know some guys are using the 50 with no problems but I opted for the 75 in my little 500 just to be safe.

Here is a quick question for the Castle guys.
Today I replaced a 75amp Align ESC with the Ice 75. I have the Ice in Fixed end point mode and left my throttle curve on my heli at 80% (where it was with the Align ESC). I hovered the heli and the headspeed was almost 300rpm less with the Ice esc. I am curious to see if the timing should be bumped up or is it possibly something in the outrunner mode that is causing the headspeed to be lower?

I am getting some pretty significant discrepancies on the logging feature of the ICE 100amp esc vs the Eagletree elogger V3 150amp.

Now I dont know who to believe..

Same session one from the eagletree and the second from the ICE 100

Most likely, it's just that the Align and the Phoenix-ICE have different 80% throttle points. You are likely running a lower throttle with the Phoenix-ICE.

Just bump the throttle curve up a bit.

Ok I will bump it up. I was trying to keep the throttle curve at about 75% in fixed end point mode so that I could switch it to Gov mode. Is this still the way that the Gov mode should be set up or has that changed? I have been using Castle controllers in my heli's for years and have never once tried Gov mode so I am pretty new to it and completely green.

Ok so I set up my "SET RPM" mode today on my 500. I inputed 2800rpm in idle up 2 and my Skytach said is was actually 2710. Here is the graph for the flight, let me know if this looks ok.

Looks to me like gain might be a smidge too high. You are getting some overshoot on RPM.

Hmm I have the gain on 7 or 8, whatever the default was. Should I still lower it a bit?

I have been running in the 15-25 range. I just keep cranking it up until it fights the tail gyro then back off a little. It never hurts to experiment.
