need help picking first "go faster"
looking to build my first prop "go faster". i fly everthing from giant scale 3d gassers, to foamie EDFs. but never had a nitro prop speed demon.
a few things id like #1 i want it to look like i nemisis, sundowner etc, i LOVE that look! #2 id like something i can run .30 to .60 (maybe .90) size two stroke on #3 id like to do 125 mph (unrealistic?) #4 id like to be able to buy the motor from tower or horizon. no specialty speed engines, same thing with props no specialized carbon fiber etc. (read budget build) what motor would you suggest? #5 id like the possiblilty to run a pipe some day. even if its hanging under the plane. probly never happen but just in case. i think that about covers it (whew!) i looked into the world models nemesis but have heard reports that even when addiquatly powered its quite slow. open to any and all suggestions. your advice would be of great help. im not familiar with this side of the hobby. or even whats out there. thanks! Sounds to me that you need a Q-40 type racer with a sport engine in it. I see that you are in Killeen, there are many active pylon racers in Texas, in the DFW area, Austin, Lubbock, and Houston. Check out the Q-40 forum on RCUniverse and in the NMPRA Forums. Look over the various airplanes that are out the and you'll probably find one that you'll like. Have fun!

Don't know if they still make this, it's from the early 90's and is called a Scat-Cat, it was $19 for the kit.
Here's a guy who has a page for his scat-cat: http://mypage.yhti.net/~dmcdnld/scatcat.htm This has a Fox Q500 engine on it (.45) - not legal for racing but I ran a 1:55, I want to say we approximated it at 150mph. I have a 10x6 prop on it now and it's slow and sluggish unless I back off the throttle, dive, and then pop it wide open - the engine has a Fox EZCarb on it now so it can be throttled down. It's fast and furuious and with my new radio I can set up dual rates and have some slow speed control...

I am buliding the scat cat right now. I am going to put a 46AX on it I think it will do at least 100MPH. The kit was 20 bucks. The only thing about the kit is the wing is foam with balsa sheeting over it. I don't think that will be able to hold up to the G's . I am going to glass it to give it extra strength.

Get the 50 size Sundowner and put the new O.S. .95 AX in it...or the older .91FX...that should get you to 125 or so.
The Revolver would be fairly fast with either of those engines as well... The Tower .75 is also a decent engine for the price. Last edited by proptop; Oct 03, 2009 at 11:25 PM. |

You're going to love flying it, quite nimble at speed, sluggish at slow speed unless you have dual rates... Balancing it is a bit of a trick though with the large engine- my battery pack is built into the plane and will get a hatch this time around for replacement (3rd time replacement!).... And they take quite hte runway to slow down, but hey.. If you put that 46AX with a 9x6 you'll go faster than 100mph, probably 130-140....but it'll be running a bit fast, get some extra castrol in the oil... |
