I put a lot of efforts into creating sound effects etc...

WOW !!! ... Verrrrryyyyy Coooooollllll!!! .... one of the top 10 best tricopter vids of all time ... some really nice artsy shots especially the slow-mo water hitting the blade ... great to see a tri looping ... Looks like you are using a fixed-motor rudder setup rather than a servo-motor setup ... is that true?

Only thing missing is a night flight nav setup.

I am also using a motor that is turned by a servo. I think this is much more effective (faster + higher precision) than a rudder.

Very cool!

For those interested, this place sells equipment to allow control of your radio via the PC

http://www.endurance-rc.com/servocommander.html

That would be a cool next step for this project!

@techspy: I am doing something similar, but I use my mobile phone instead of my radio, or I let the computer control my copter on it's own without me doing anything. By the way...: Are there many typos/ grammar errors in my last video...? I sometimes still have some difficulties to say what I want to say in english...

Could any native speaker maybe have a look at my blog and tell me which mistakes I made...?

And maybe also here...?

Took a quick gander at it and it looks ok to me. Thanks for doing it in English!

I only have one recommendation. If you could change this sentence

"I did not upload the complete source code..."
To this- "I have uploaded the complete source code..."

It would be more enjoyable for native speakers to read
I would even settle for just the basic stable tricopter code that could be flown with a transmitter, without all the autonomous stuff

Great job by the way!

LoL...! :-D
I will for sure upload the source code of the copter "soon" (my favorite word ;-D ). But at this moment I uploaded the matlab part only. That is because my PCB will be changed "soon" and then some things will change in the copters source code. I sort of want to deliver a "round thing". I'll keep you updated and post news here.

Cool Thanks!!!

Forgot to mention that video is awesome!

I'm still not sure how you did the morphs between the three tricopters at (1:26). After Effects?

The sound effects go really well with the images. I like all the music as well but especially the one that starts at (2:45). What is it?
That slo-mo stuff at the beginning is wicked cool as well.

Ok back to tricopters now.

No problem. Once you release your tricopter code, all will be forgiven

The morphs are made with a freeware tool. I don't remember the name, but is was really easy to use... I don't know how the song is called... I ripped it from a snowboard movie...

Hmmm... These two answers will really help you I guess ;-D

Wow! Very cool.

Is that a ProMini I see on there!!! Is that the only processor chip on the board? There looks like there my be another one towards the lower right of your PCB.

Just curious why the ProMini wasn't enough by it's self and you needed the rest of your PCB? Does it only handle IMU calculations and another chip handles the rest, or something like that.

Hi!
Yes, I am using a pro mini (16mhz, 5V mega168) as µC. It seemed to be the most easy and light weight way to use it. It is the only controller, the other DIL thingy is a max232. I didn't want to solder smd components, but maybe the next version will be in smd. The mega168 is by far enough for doing all the calculations. I am using only 9kb of code, and the code runs with 550 Hz which seems to be more than enough. Are you also developing a quadrocopter?

Thanks for the info.

Others are developing one. I'm just a happy user and always like to see new quads or tris on the scene
It's really great to see this project using the Arduino! My main interest is in VTOL and I've been wanting to add wings to a tricopter

Count me in if you decide to sell your PCB.

Here is a new video showing some of the outdoor performance:

@rcvertt: I have one additional PCB here that I won't use. You can have it if you like.
