Avia B-35 (full composite)

description:
The Czech fighter plane Avia B-35/B-135.1 from the times before World War II is model for this composite plane of aircombat class. It was constructed at the very begin of WWII by czech designers. After Munich agreement was the whole project of Avia stopped. You can read more about history of Avia B-35 on the web page devoted to the real plane (Czech). The model was developed for memory of czech aircraft history.
For R/C combat the model is designed for use with 2,5 ccm (0.15) glow fuel engines or AC electric motor. It was completely designed in 3D software. The main components of moulds were worked by CNC 3D machine. This process saved shapes of composit parts in very details. The hole construction was thought through in the last detail for reaching the least flying weight, the best firmness and very good flying characters. Avia model is streamed to be sport plane more then copy of original. It is speed and dexterous plane especialy for quick and adrenaline flying. You should follow recommended driving combinations. For hobby use it is possible to mount in to it a weaker and lighter engine and battery.

There was a question what to do if one of the kit makers or distributors won't ship outside the EU.

If you have a buddy in Germany then it'll be easy to ship several Speed Cobras to the US or Canada.

The “Deutsche Post (DHL) Company“ for instance offers insured shipping to Zone 3 states (that includes also USA and Canada) in a box sized up to 60x60x120 cm. Following Pythagoras' theorem you get a C diagonal length of 134 cm.

In case of the COBRA made by Fliegerland that means you would be able to pack at least 4 complete kits into one 60x60x120 cm shipping box!

calc:
  • 840 EUR = price of 4 Cobra kits
  • 9.50 EUR = national shipping insured to your German buddy
  • 44 EUR = international shipping insured to Zone 3 of the 60x60x120 cm box weighing 10 kg max
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
893.50 EUR grand total (four Cobras shipped insured to US or Canada)
equalling ca. 320 US$ per kit shipped

This kind of shipping usually takes 4 to 6 weeks from Europe to North America.

The 128 cm long Cobra is a very large speed plane. So in case of smaller speed planes of about 1 meter of wing span you could pack approximately 10 kits (of different makers if you like) into one 60x60x120 cm shipping box!

For instance the little ME-163 Komet by TOPP-RIPPIN is one of the hottest small speed planes available worldwide – and it is not expensive. Powered by only the JETT .35 BSE FIRE or the OPS .29 RIRE it is faster (at least 180 mph with a 6x8 speed prop) than any Weston V50 powered Magnum or JETT .50 powered Diamond Dust.

Just give it a try – you won't be disappointed.

Hey I-L-J I have a Beretta 21 that I have not built. You said the plane has "The ailerons are built as elastic-flaps!" Can you clarify? not sure what you mean and the instructions I have only show regular hinges.

Thanks for your posts again.

Elastic flaps are the most efficient aerodynamic solution – highly recommended especially for speed planes.

Elastic does mean that the hinge for the ailerons or elevators is made of ARAMID or NYLON (or other suitable textile) over the entire length of the flap. The hinge line ( = center of rotation) mostly is located at the top side of the wing surface. In case of a composite wing it is necessary to carefully carve the outside glass fiber or carbon fiber layer down to the flexible hinge material. To enable downward movement of the flap the bottom side of the wing surface below the hinge line must be V-slotted. You may also add a lip at the bottom side that covers the gap.

I believe only Berettas made in year 2007 or later feature elastic flaps.

If you don't have a German buddy yet who would help you to ship one or more Speed Cobra kits plus other speed plane kits (for your local speed friends for instance to safe shipping costs) to the US or Canada, then I suggest this:

Register for free at http://www.rc-network.de/forum/register.php (the German RCgroups equivalent)

Start a thread in English at the “Motorflug“ sub-forum http://www.rc-network.de/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18 and ask for someone who would help you to ship that 60x60x120 cm box by DHL over the pond.

If that German potential helper is a long-time registered RC-Network user with hundreds or thousands of posts then he is well integrated to the forum community and thus trustworthy.

Remember: Germany is a small country. Many forum folks do know each other personally...

To make the transfer public to the German forum users you should keep your thread alive until the speed plane kits arrived at your home in US or Canada. Please use the tracking number of the insured DHL shipping and visit your local USPS office. So you will be informed about the status quo of the shipping...

Screamin Demon Delta

One of the easiest ways to get in to high speed aircraft is with a delta. The Screamin Demon delta is a 32" span quick and easy building kit that is capable of well over 150mph with many of the high performance sport and pylon engines available in the .40-.50/7.5-8.5cc range. It has been clocked at over 170mph with a Sport Jett .50!

Yet, for all its speed and capability the aircraft is easy to fly, tracks true, and slows way down for landing or when you need a break.

In addition, it is an amazing flier on a wide range of sport engines from a good Schneurle .25 on up. With a strong .32-.35 engine and the lighter wing loading that results, you'll see 120mph top speeds and turns so tight you'll wonder how it stays together. But - with a pair of carbon fibre spars locking everything together, no worries. Any sport .40 - .46 will give you a wild ride.

Construction is conventional balsa/ply supported by two pultruded carbon fibre tubular spars. Builder is required to glass key areas for strength and durability. Covering - conventional films or fabric.

Available from www.MikesRC.us.

Wing span: 32"
Wing area: 475 sq in.
Weight: 2.3 - 3.0 pounds
Engine size: .25 - .35 (.25 case)
.40 - .60 (.40 case)

Construction: Laser-cut ply and balsa parts, tubular carbon fibre spars

DeHavilland DH-88 Comet (full composite premium ARF)

description:
The D. H. 88 Comet was specifically developed in 1934 for the London/Melbourn air race by Sir Geoffrey DeHavilland. It is one of Britain’s most famous aircraft.
The
  • red Comet G-ACSS "Grosvenor House",
together with its two sister aircraft,
  • the Mollison’s G-ACSP "Black Magic" and
  • Bernard Rubin’s un-named British Racing Green G-ACSR,
won the race with a flight time of just over 70 hours. Outfitted with two 230 horsepower motors and retractable undercarriage. This very advanced aircraft was one of the first to be equipped with a variable pitch propeller. Thus it was far ahead of her time not only due to her exciting design.

The original’s advanced elliptical wing plan-form and the sophisticated nacelle arrangement, necessary to accommodate the two motors and retractable undercarriage legs, lend themselves to our proven all-moulded epoxy glass construction of all components, enabling incredible lightness and strength, together with a surface finish and detail accuracy with all control surfaces already hinged for you.

Grosvenor House comes ready finished in its striking red livery with distinctive markings, Black Magic and the Rubin British Racing Green aircraft are available on special request. This scale aircraft may also be flown as a PSS soarer.

specifications:
scale: 1:6.5

BLIZZARD (full composite speed delta)

description:
This full composite high-speed delta plane is not suited for faint-hearted pilots. Already a hot 6.5 cc engine will turn this pusher delta into a challenging “rocket”. However, especially when using a 10 to 15 cc ducted fan engine a catapult is highly recommended for safe and relaxed take-offs. As for proper tank installation, a 50 cc hopper tank next to the engine firewall is highly recommended in addition to the main tank situated near to the COG.

specifications:
wingspan: 880 mm
length: 1050 mm
engine: 6.5 to 20 cc side or rear exhaust speed engine
weight: from 2200 g
kit price: 175 €
