Smallest Free Flight build... With plans!

I had this huge idea to make a tiny plane... I do not know if it will fly.

Due to reynolds numbers, twitchyness of small models, and trimming issues at this side.

But, it will at least look cool!

It's a simple box fuse

Undercambered ribbed wing

Dihedral guide

Tail end, Ele and rudder.

Planning on slizing 1/8th stringers in half or quarter, to make this.
I have produce bags for the covering.

Probably not powered.... I am not even going to attempt that yet. Pics soon.

Plans provided are full size.

That sounds pretty neat.

I wonder if I could make a Cox .00010 for this.

I have part of the wing made, the elevator and rudder made.

I cut the ele and rudder out of 1/16th balsa, but them in half to 1/32, and then sanded them down as much as I can.

The body and wings, I took a 1/16th stringer, and cut it lengthwise into 4 1/64th? pieces. Then sanded those down further.

I have a magnifying glass, a low powered microscope, needles and tweezers to help me along.

You're a glutton for punishment making this from built up instead of just sanding some 1/32 sheet down to something like 1/64 but you're learning something and having fun experimenting.

Back when I was a lad I made up literally dozens of little back yard gliders that ranged in size from 10 inch span down to 2 inch span. The best size seemed to come in at the 6 inch span size range. Along the way there were canards, deltas, flying wings, biplanes and other oddities. I even tried a "Snoopy's doghouse" gilder that was about 5 inches tall all made from 1/32 sheet..... that one was a dismal failure...

Out of all that I learned a lot about trimming and design so it was fun as well as educational.

Ah...tiny models! My smallest rubber model is a 3" biplane...does about 2 1/2 minutes indoors. Smallest glider is 2 1/2" span, does about 20 sec off the catapult and thermals happily. It's a wonder I haven't lost that glider a long time ago.

John Diebolt has me beat, as he has produced rubber models as small as 1 3/4", and they do fly very well from what I hear. John is an expert, though, and usually wins several events at the indoor nationals.

That's tiny for rubber power!

I have the wings constructed... they seem awefully heavy for their size. Used produce bag to cover them.

The WS is 4cm with a .5 cm chord
I dont have measurements on the tail yet.
It's been really hard trying to do things accurately, all the pieces move around the board if you just breath wrong!

That's why my 4" span Horten IX was possible, I stick to flying wings at those sizes. No pieces = bigger breath needed to move it lol

Best of luck with it...and hopefully it'll fly for ya
