At this size you could probably go direct drive with a small brushless motor. :P

The charge rate on the charger was too high causing lipos to burn out in a few weeks; there are some undersized connections that caused short flight times, again after a few weeks; and it requires some pretty significant mods to get it to have any kind of movement authority. It indicates long term testing was insufficient.

I have both a 4#3B BL and an MCX and overall I consider the MCX to be a better designed bird for its intended use. Neither are issue free. I've gone through 8 tail motors on the 4#3B and I am still on the original motors on the MCX. I had the MCX first and it has more hours on it than the 4#3B so the tail motor issue on the 4#3B is large.

I also had two issues with the mcx. The connector that goes to the battery stops working and causes the need for excessive rH rudder trim and eventually not even full trim will correct. Along with the trim the flight times get shorter and shorter. Problem is you pretty much have to be a forum guy to get the answer on this which is either resoldering or replacing the battery connector. Most people think there batterys are dying which in some cases is true because the charger is set too high.
The lack of performance issues I really don't consider an issue. MCX is a beginners heli and IMO it is not meant to fly real fast and be real responsive. Performance can be improved with mods but the intent was a beginners indoor flyer so its all good.
Also IMO the MCX is pretty much useless for learning anything other than orientation because it is so stable you fly all day with no L/R cyclic input.
I really look forward to the MSR because my 8 year old wants a micro FP single rotor and the 4#3B is just too hard for him to fly. Maybe after some time on the MSR he can tackle the 4#3B.

Single cell lipos can generally safely charge at higher charge rates; constantly running them to LVC is what causes damage.

Or it indicates we hade a different target customer in mind. Our target customer was the rank beginner, and we're quite satisfied with the performance we delivered for that customer. For those who want speed and agility, once they have learned the basics of heli control with a coax, the mSR is a great next step.

wow, never thought this thread would take off lol. I'm really looking forward to the release of this heli, my 4#3Q had a servo go out, and they are integrated to the board I don't want to buy one from china, with the shipping it would be close to the msR bnf.

Great job horizon, I was starting to wonder if you guys would ever put out a single rotor fp heli.

This is really what I wanted.. Kind of sucks that I have put so much money in my 4G3 to convert it to DSM2 !

I'll definately get this one

I don't believe I'm the only one who found this but I thought it'd be nice to share

Will the MCX radio work with the MSR?

Yep, kind of interesting since the Sukhoi pretty much requires a computer TX, they say the Sukhoi can run on a Ember or DX5 transmitter, but not with my fingers. From the videos that I have seen, the RTF version actually comes with a mCX type transmitter.

A rank beginner would be very likely to run the battery to LVC! The problem with the batteries is mitigated by reducing the charging rate. The poor connections are the most troubling and you have no response to that.

Oh man. Im so excited for this heli, its coming out right in time for my birthday! I got the BNF MCX and fly it with my DX7. I will definitely be getting the RTR version of this one, then I can fly it with my DX7 and pass the MCX down to my daughter (along with the TX that comes with the msr)

Ive done the walkera thing, and while its what got me hooked on heli's, the electronics quality is not there. Every walkera servo Ive ever had has burnt out well before it should have. I also cannot fly a walkera micro with my DX7, and I feel it would be kinda silly to have an expensive heli radio, but still use some basic pos with a heli.... That why I have resisted getting one of the helimax micros too, however inviting they look... if I cant bind it to my dx7, I dont want it. $180 is a little steep, but its not horrible.
