If any of you guys have any pictures on hand of your ground station setup, I would be greatly interested in seeing them, for ideas.

Lol, this is my 4th post in a row, I should have made it all just one if i knew it was going to be this long.

Don't forget this. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=2169

Cheap programming card for your ESC. Makes life easy!!

Your setup looks good.

Also, I just finished my first FPV yesterday at 4pm. At 5pm I was fishing it out of a tree about 40 feet up

I did the aileron mod. It was pretty easy to do. I thought I could just cut away at the foam on the top and bottom to leave enough for the aileron to stay attached.... did not work. It came unattached during the throw and so I just used rudder input and flew it around a few laps. (Everyone is screaming at me because of my stupidity for not landing immediately) I was just too excited to get it up finally. <---sounds like an old man and Viagra

Anyways, started getting some glitching on my 2.4 radio (I think) and decided to bring it in. I had to look at the video display while I was in flight and got mesmerized by it...I could not look away. Needless to say I got disoriented and crashed into the very top off a tree. It has very light damage…repairable in 1 hour. On-Board Video is hilarious. So, after every crash I always say to myself "What did you learn". Below is what I learned.

1. Range Check ALWAYS!
2. If it’s broke land immediately
3. Test the setup with the video transmitter off to make sure you have no problems...then flight test with video transmitter on.
4. Buy monkey to get airplane out of tree...and name the monkey tinkers.

Good Luck!!

Hey Wobby...

What have you mounted the RX to? It looks like some sort of Ear Muff headware

Cheers

Between 1 and 2 above, you should insert> 1.5 - Always have with you a Spotter.

When you became disorientated while looking at your display, they would have been watching your plane VISUALLY while standing next to you, and would have alerted you to the tree in front, telling you to bank left or right to avoid it in good time!

I agree, setting up the Ground Station is the tedious aspect to the whole FPV experience!
Found myself wasting precious minutes trying to fix video issues (between GS and Plane) that were actually fine on the previous occasion when packing up.

(even more so when you only get an hour lunch break, so every second counts!!)

I need to update my profile, I actually live in Bellevue with my dad now. I regularly fly at marymoor park, they have an rc field there.

By the way, if its convenient for anyone that's near Bellevue, if you would like to go out and show me some FPV flying sometime, I would be glad. I have a feeling its going to be a while to finish my plane, as I don't want to buy the cheapest parts I can get, so its going to cost a bit. I have enough for the aircraft now, and a bit more, then I need to save up for the video equipment.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, very much appreciated!

lol, ROFLMAO...

Yeah, im totally over ground stations, they simply are not needed, as is half the other stuff we see....

Drakeremoray,
Congrats on your Maiden FPV.
yeah, gotta watch those MAGNETIC trees, lol.
Obviously missed rule 1.5, lol

Mongrel,
i just use one of these, i ditch the mask, keep the frame, its adjustable, light, strong, cheap.

The frame is easy to attatch stuff to,
Just pop a single reciever on top, and the WHOLE LOT (Goggles, HeadTracker, Video Reciever), can be powered from my Transmitter.

I like simplicity, it works great IMHO.

Pete,
1.2 video with a quality 300mw, or 1.2 video with a not so good quality 800mw will get you there in a clean flying enviroment.
I wouldn't fly that far in the center of civilisation. lol

Way to go Wobby. That's how we Aussies protect ourselves from the sun!

And so I finally placed my order. Based off some of your recommendations, I have configured my plane. I'm in a bit of a hurry now, so I will post details later, but its been done! I got the EX off Towerhobbies too, so now I just have to wait, lol.
