Yep, Charlotte Aeromodelers. There are 3 of us that have EDF's out there. Techspy has a Sparks with a Stumax powerplant that he has been flying with a rog. We're in the process of finishing up a pair of FlyFly Mirages on 6S for some formation flying. I'd like to see the HET F-16 fly, I've thought of getting that kit but I really don't want to have to bungee launch it since I don't have the equipment to do so.

I've handlaunched mine every flight. It does very well on a handlaunch even at 43oz's!

Great info guys.

Is the Hoffman magnetics fan unit and motor that much heavier or are you saying that because of the additional battery weight?

Evan,

Here is a video of my HET F-16 on the 2W-20/HET Fan...

HET F-16 4s3300 (4 min 29 sec)

The video quality isn't great. But, you get the idea. These things are fast (117 mph radar in this video) and they fly great.

I routinely fly electric pylon planes that are over 160mph and have recorded a max of 229.9mph. Currently my only EDF is a Alfa F-86 I've been flying for 4 years, believe it or not it still is in great condition. Anyway it flies fantastic and I want another EDF and the F-16 is looking to be it.

Thanks.

Evan,

Sorry about that. The video is up now.

117 mph should be no problem for you. The only issue is it gets hard to see pretty quick. But, the vertical is almost unlimited (or, as far as you would want it to go) and it fly's really nice. Plus it looks great making low fast passes.

Thats a 4S 3300 lipo in your video? I'm using the same size in my foam Sapac F-16. I wonder if I need to play with the timing a little more.......

Yes, that's a Thunder Power 4s 3300 V2 pack.

I don't know how big the Sapac F-16 is. But, the HET is pretty small and sleek for a 70mm EDF.

Strictly my preference, but I don't care for HET jets. Too expensive and not realistic enough. Plus really hard to repair, and the only easily hand-launched one is the F-18. (I loathe bungees).

The new SEPO jets from Lander and others are a better idea, IMHO

I don't know about the Hoffman combo but the Wild Beast + ESC & battery to cope is a fair bit heavier than the usual 70 mm setup. Battery needs to support 100+ amps comfortably so you are really talking 5000 mah if you want any kind of flight time at all even with mixed throttle usage. But it certainly does kick out some power as well as take it in.
