HKM ASW 27 any tips, thougths or musings?

I'm fortunate enough to have a 4.3M HKM ASW27 inbound. I hope to start digging into the assembly this weekend. http://www.hkm-models.com/ASW%2027.html

This has been a well-regarded ship here on RCG and I can't say enougth good things about John at HKM. Any pointers, suggestions or recommendations from owners, previous owners or others among this esteemed group? I'll be purchasing all new servos for this one (JR) so I'm an open book on equipment, assembly tips or flying guidance.

I'm not sure how my quiver of Schweitzers and other woodies will take to having a glass ship in their midst, but it's time and I've really been impressed with HKM's quality.

Thanks for the pointers.

Steve

Hkm 27

love mine. all hitec 85's installed by Ben Biss.
they work just fine.
CG at the back of the wing rod. sweet spot.
a very good thermalling machine.
pretty tough plane given all the drama I have given it including losing sight of it at 2000 feet and never seeing it get away.
found later 1.25 miles away in a corn field with repairable damages.
over all, my most flown aero tow plane in my fleet

Kevin, that must have been a sick feeling, how did you locate it? I also will be assembling my ASW 27 I bought from John Dernstien (?) about 7 years ago and never built. I will be watching Steve, did you get my message about the seat pan?

That HKM 27 is a real pussycat, handles great, has a wide C.G. range, thermals well. No special tips to speak of, just relax and enjoy it.

I lost sight of my Duo Discus on about the 4th flight I had with it. Jonathon Alpert almost had to pry the transmitter from my trembling hands. "I see it, give me your transmitter." "Are you sure you're looking at my plane, not those hawks." "No, it's your plane, give me the radio!" "Are you sure? Wehhhllllllll, ...... o.k., here take it." Really scary feeling for about 30 seconds.

Hkm 27

This was lost at JR two years ago
I was so embarrassed. dumb dumb dumb.

Charley Fox left my side and found someone with a full scale cessan 150 and we flew in a search pattern for nearly an hour before spotting a white wing panel in the corn field 1.25 miles away !!!

the pilot knew the area well and gave me coordinates and we were later able to walk in to the corn field, with corn over our heads..and Charley walked right up to the plane !!!

still my favorite scale sailplane...zero bad habits !!!
STeve...I am keeping yours as back up in case I lose my original for keeps !
