Having fun doesn't have to be expensive!!

Well, I'll start this out by saying that my bio says it all, (click on my username to find the bio). I've been building and flying, (and crashing!!), model airplanes since the age of 8. Nights were often spent building model airplanes; most weekends we were flying or competing....thanks Dad. I've been in & out of the sport a few times over the years, (life has a way of doing that you know?), but my heart and some of my fondest memories revolve around model aviation. I was fortunate enough to have a dad who took a week off of work in the summer of 1963 so he and I could compete in the 1963 AMA NATS; I was all of 10. Dad flew "C" Free-Flight; I flew 1/2A, & A class (Jr. Division). I flew against Sal Taibi Jr., (he beat me!); dad flew against Sal Sr., (dad got beat too!). I got some good air and manged a 4th. place in A Gas FF...Sal Taibi Jr. was 3rd., (I forget who was 1st. & 2nd.). What an honor to compete against giants of the model aviation world. Later in life I was an early member and vice-president of Central Valley Radio Control Soaring, (CVRC); home of one of the largest sailplane contests in the world: The Fall Soaring Festival. I currently am a proud member of the Pismo Beach Soaring Society; a small bunch of great human beings who are crazy about soaring. I proudly carry the same AMA number I had in 1963: 30462. Obviously my love of this sport is evident; I wish my building and flying skills matched my enthusiasm. I will post a few pics of my current planes; the first of my dad & his Apogee "A" Class FF from 1962. I will add pics as I build 'em. BTW: I didn't plan it that way, but it seems I'm wearing a different hat in every pic of me on this blog.....my beautiful daughter Jessica says all the time..."How many hats do you need??.... You're so weird!!".......yes Baby I sure am!!! Seen any cool hats lately??? More is better!!

Geek, thanks for that reply..I take that as a compliment. Yeah I like to play...music...rc..music...rc... more music. I live simple, but I live on my own terms.....(doesn't do much for the old bank account though). Keep checking this blog..I run a 3 day music festival, (18th. Annual Big Sur Jade Festival, Oct 9, 10, & 11). Jade vendors from around the world, music all day every day...completely volunteer run. Free admission! We, (the festival), donate all of the proceeds to local school activities, our little community center, and the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade. We had over 6,000 attend last year. Musically I will have Peter Lewis, (founding member of Moby Grape), and 15+ other pro acts over 3 days. As the Festival Director I will be posting updates, press releases, booking announcements and more to this blog to help spread the word. Best of all...there are some of the best slope soaring sites in the world nearby, (one is right across the street from the festival!). I'll be taking my slope planes with me.....I will try to sneak away during the festival, (shhhh..don't tell 'em where I am!!!), and get in some sloping. I'll be keeping you all posted. BTW: planning a trip to "slope heaven" tomorrow...a friend has his very own hill!! Perfect slope site!! I plan to maiden my CS Racer there. I just added a second aileron servo so I can have flaperons...I'll post the results and post some more pics..............Good Air To Ya.....Blues To Ya!!!

PS: My Dad always called me "Sonny"...all the flying club members called me that....this blog and my username are dedicated to Dad & all the other modeling mentors I grew up with.. S

A shop isn't legit if you don't have an Ibanez amp and a cordless drill!

Nice job, Syd!

Hey Mike! What you don't see in that pic is a wall of guitars behind me and piles of sound equipment. The space was formerly the projection room of a silent movie theater. The building was originally a vaudeville theater, then became Morro Bay's first movie theater..it was built around 1919...cool old space...I love that I can have a shop there...like I said, it's my "Man Hole".......Syd
