Question
How to take apart a brushless motor?

Can anyone tell me or provide pointers to as to how to take a brushless motor apart, and its pitfalls?

Some are not make to come apart, for what reason do you want to take it apart?

This is for a TowerPro but most of them are similar.

Problems:
1. Getting that #$#@@$ little e-clip off.
2. Losing the #$$@#$ e-clip.
3. There may be a tiny thrust washer that hangs up in the e-clip groove.
4. You need to pull HARD to overcome the magnetic attraction.

Assembly:
1. DO NOT let the stator SNAP back in > may damage bearings.
2. Getting the @#$@# e-clip back on if you still have it.
3. Finding an outlet for the e-clip you lost.

Some folks disassemble in a large plastic bag to keep it from getting lost.
While you are in there oil the bearings. They are frequently pretty dry, even when new if cheap. NO WD-40. 3-in-1 will work.

I just remove the two set screws on the magnet end and just push the shaft out the the mounting bracket end. Then seperate the two peices for inspection and if necesary, do my rewinding of the motor.

Guys, thanks a lot, particularly flydiver. It was hilarious.

I actually needed to take HXT 16g motor from hobbycity.

Surprisingly the motor has the mount stuck on it. Even after getting the grub screws out, the mount does not come off. And the mount is such that it is all solid from the back side so the clip is not visible/accessible.

I have many motors, ironically the TowerPro bell motors are the only ones still surviving all the crashes. I have one more HXT motor (24g one) that died after one of the wires coming out of the motor broke. I can see the broken wire down at the stator but don't know how to fix it. I have a couple of more motors that have simiilar problem, like FC 2805. Those motors don't even start. They try to turn but it seems something inside is stopping them from spinning. I guess I will start by opening one of those.

Hi
A lot of "good" outrunners have wheel collar + set screw instead of bad quality circlip.
Easy (generally) to remove the rotor-shaft assembly.
Sometimes, one need to turn the shaft with abrasive paper to slip through the ball bearings inner rings.

Broken wires on cheap motors (and expensive motors also) is all too common. Sometimes if you are good AND lucky you can clean off insulartion and re-solder. Usually the fix is re-wind or re-place.

I now have a broken wire on the 16g HXT motor just like the 24g HXT motor. Clearly this is a common problem with HXT motors I would think. It was probably about to break and that's what causing the cut off. I have noticed this before with other motors as well. When they have a loose connection it causes the jerks at startup or it shuts down in the middle. I don't think I would be able to remove the insulation as there is not enough space to work with. And I have no idea how to rewind. I guess I will have to search on youtube about this. Or does anyone have a pointer for me to such a video? I can always order another motor from Hobbycity but that would mean a 3 weeks wait.

Probably the easiest place to start is here:

Read one of the tutorials on winding the GBv or GBx.
Those are ABC winds for 9 stator poles and 12 magnets.

If you have 12 stator poles and 14 magnets that's a dLRK wind and a good tutorial is here:

Both of those motors are known for broken wire issues but are good candidates for rewinds.
