Is there a post showing picture of a FA-80 being stripped down? perhaps showing the push rod covers being removed and indeed the gears at the bottom of the pushrods?

I can't seem to find anything, before I go ahead and strip my motor.

Special tool: just use an appropriate drill to steady the camshaft

Hey guys, got the rebuild for the 72 almost done, wondering what the little slim AL washer does? It fits on the crank at the front bearing, does it go between the bearing and prop flange?

do any of you fellows know anything about old saito 4-strokes that did not use rings?

I am rebuilding a 90T Mk1 engine and was surprised to find that although it has a shallow groove in the piston, there is no ring.

I think that groove was used to help scrap oil into the crankcase. Enya and Saito produced ABC ringless four strokes in the early days. OS did it not too long ago with the FL-70.

I understand the FL70 was a flop. Could it be that the ringless design did not allow enough oil to the crankcase? Personally I like to see a lot of oil for the internals, I have a 180 here that was oil starved and it is worn out inside.

It is an oil-groove...but most are hair-line thin and the one your piston has seems very wide...
It looks like about 0.6 mm.
