Slofly Mini-3D (revisited)

Hi all, I just noticed Steve closed all the other RCG slofly threads. FYI, for those who haven't been in the loop with Steve's planes, here is the original Slofly thread from 2004 (it goes 4 threads deep, then ends with a link to Steve's forums):

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=273376

The purpose of this thread is to build upon the above closed threads. I know Steve's operating his own forums now, so I figured I'd open up another thread for RCG members who are still doing slo's. I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here. I'll kick it off with a pic of my latest Slo 28's (one for me, and one for my buddy). Long live the Mini-3D!!!

Cheers,
Kev

Thanks Kev for keeping the Slo's thread alive, and my hats off to you Tall Flyer for giving us the chance to learn 3D without breaking the bank.

I am now building another mini, and I am making it as straight and as solid as I can by using flat cf all over the plane structure without making it too heavy. I will be flying this outside my front yard!

will upload old mini vid shortly!

Heres what I got so far:

Mayday27,

That plane is to beautiful to fly, i'd be afraid to scatch the paint job!

I learned to fly with a Superslo 28. It definitely did not look as good as that slofly but is still hanging on my wall and gets back into the air on occasion. Learned a lot from Sloper Steve and Tallflyer. Both are a treasure trove of knowledge.

Regards,

Hankg

Thanks HankG,

RC GUAM Kronik Bert Hover & Torque Roll Session Inside Pacific Island Hobbies (5 min 55 sec)
(my old mini flying indoor, we forgot to turn the AC off!)

This paint job was pretty easy to pull off, I will post the steps when I get a chance(I did'nt use airbrush to do it). I cut the wing today hopefully I can get her in the air by tomorow. CAN'T WAIT!

I will be using digital servos for this set-up. This is my show plane so I would like to spoil her with awesome electros.

here are all the parts ready for assembly:

Mayday.

Mayday, absolutely awesome paint job! If mine looked like that I'd use digitals too. Nice flying too! You do a fine job of hovering that twitchy machine in that small space.

I still regularly fly my 22, 26, and 28. I don't have a favorite, just depends on what mood I'm in; they all fly so differently. If I'm amped up and want to go ballistic, the 22. If I feel like crazy tumbling and freestyle, the 26. If I want to relax and enjoy more controlled 3D, the 28.

Cheers,
Kev

Thanks Kev, this is my favorite bird right now! shes pretty stable on all 3d maneuvers, the set up was right on the money and I can fly her with a lot of authority. I've been flying her outdoors and I've been pulling off crazy maneuvers, my thumbs were never been this busy before. I will try to post longer outdoor flying.

heres the long awaited outdoor flight. This bird is so easy to build and it's rock solid on all 3D maneuvers.

ENJOY!
