Thanks. That's all I needed. Now "How to backlight a DX6i" would be nice.
How about some photos of the mod for us DIYers?

That's OK. I've converted my DX6i to lipo and added backlighting this morning. Thanks for the info.

Guys, this is the 2nd time I will kindly ask everyone to stay on-topic, please create your own thread if you want to discuss/share off-topic subject. I'd like to keep this thread focus on my original subject so no one gets confused, and for the record the above posts are NOT my work. If any mod is reading this, please do something. Thank you.

all orders shipped including ones placed on my site
![]() im currently testing a new white panel that appear to be true white but it it looks so much better despite the fact that it cost more and drawn a bit more current than the original one. However with lipo, i don't have to worry about that. more info comming im doing this one for the Spektrum DX3S which is a nice car radio. Last edited by ptt81; Jul 31, 2009 at 11:16 PM. |

Just added some pics of my new DX6i backlid mod to the front page. The design has been change a bit to accommodate the lower voltage of 4.8v-6v (4x AA) of DX6i, the DX7 and JR XP9303 I have done before were powered by 9.6v-11.1v (8x AA or Lipo pack). The performance and low current drawn stay the same. The DX6i screen actually looks very nice with blue backlid because the text is black in color.

Hello , Now that my posts seem to be staying around i thought id like to replace my missing posts in this thread but since i cant remember everything said earlier i figured id just put up some new photos here and call it done . I bought the backlight mod from ptt81 and it is great . anyone with a decent amount of do it yourself spirit in them should be able to do this as a fun afternoon project . The instructions are clear and well written and take you through the install easily . In my opinion the results are everything advertised , and I would highly recomend this upgrade for anyones TX . Ive enclosed some photos of mine but remember im a much better tech. than a photographer . Happy Flying

for the DX7 or JR 9303, you would need 3s lipo. For the DX3S though I plan on using some Sanyo Eneloop.

OK after seeing and reading about backlighting the LCD screens on transmitters I decided I was going to look into it and possibly try it out. Well after reading and looking at several threads, images & videos of different methods of backlighting I decided I was going to maybe try out this KIT. The one major factor that made up my decision was the quality of the lighting. Some kit or conversion that I saw, you were able to tell that they were simply using led and some sort of acrylic or simply just led position around the glass of the screen creating bright spots near the led and faded areas in other places. This kit is a complete panel that once installed will evenly illuminate the entire screen making it look like it was done from the FACTORY. So after several messages with PTT81 I decided to go ahead an order a kit for my very new DX6i (it still has the clear cover over the screen). One week or so after receiving confirmation of shipping I received the kit in a well packaged box, inside I found the kit itself and also a very detail HOW TO documentation for installation as well as a nice bonus in way of a discount for future purchases to be use on his web site. I am no electronic GURU and do not have any schooling in electronics but I do how ever consider myself to be above average when it comes to messing around with stuff like this. After carefully reading all the instruction I began working on my radio. You must gain access to the LCD panel and the instruction call for removing the antenna board as well as some wires tabs to be disconnected from the main PC board to gain access to the LCD screen. Once you gain access to the LCD screen steps are required to prepare the screen for the backlight and I will not be mentioning them here as I believe the Vendor wishes to not give away is technique as well as some photos of the kit itself. I fully understand and will honour his request. After following all the steps with some minor variations of my own the kit is fully installed and working and makes it look like the TX came this way. The entire process from getting the box in the mail to closing up the radio and enjoying the finish product took under 1 hour. I give this KIT 10 out of 10 for look. The actual kit, quality and the end result is just amazing, the best way to describe the finish look of the product is simply to say take a look at a INDIGLOW watch and this is what you’re LCD display will look like. As for installation I give this kit 8 out of 10 and the reason is with my skills being above average it was easy to follow the very clear and precise instruction however this installation will Void your warranty as you are modifying you’re radio and there is the possibility of damaging the radio and or screen if you are not careful. It was a little nerve racking messing around with my 200$ radio but the end product is well worth it. Do I recommend this product, Y E S. |
