Flew my BnF today! Installed a HS-55 for rudder, REALLY easy! Flys GREAT!
No problems! Goes vertical! Faster than Scale... Flys slow, too! Gentle stall, too!
Will NOT spin or snap roll, I tried! 10 minutes easy with stock 1300 3s pack, if you can resist WFO most of the time! Easy overhand and underhand toss launch at about 75% throttle!! The rudder is not terribly effective (like the T28) but at least I don't feel dumb when I use the left stick out of habit! Like I do on my ALFAs! Glides well, lands slow and steady like a butterfly on the grass. No drama here!
I might play with a different prop, if I ever break this one.
Great job PZ!

Hi!

Thats the one from the Blade MCX, right?
That is a very low power, short range Tx!
Get a DX5e for about $59!

What are the dimensions of the spinner? Particularly the diameter where it meets the fuse? Might see if I can locate a suitable replacement.

Lets get this party started. Hopefully the stock motor can handle a 9x9...

This is my first parkzone plane, my first foam aircraft, and my first P51 after nearly 17 years in the hobby.

My initial impressions:

-The stock prop is a joke that thing is going right in the trash

-18 amp ESC and 1300 mah pack are disappointing but I'm sure it will fly fine stock. I guess I'll never know.......

-Not including a rudder is the silliest decision ever. The servos are probably less then a dollar at actual cost. They really can't throw one in?

-The RTF includes an RF 3channel radio after the Corsair included a DX5. Again silly, charge more and throw in the DX5. Hell even design a 3 channel single stick DSM radio I bet that would be a big hit.

On with the build, I'm going to be using a 30 amp E-Flite ESC, a Hitec HS55, and a T-28 prop or 9x9 depending on amp draw. Zippy 30c 3S 2200 packs for power

Dratted work - I've not been able to get home to get mine installed. I'm also going to go with Zippy 2200's if they fit and the P-51 will balance with them. Curious to see how you make out with them in yours Ping!

I also found you need to cut out the fire wall to get a 2200 battery to fit. Plus if you are going to use an adapter to get a larger prop to work

the outside of the flange that holds the nosecone is about 1 15/16".
the front of the engine housing is about 2 17/32"
the gap between the thingy and the housing is 1/4" mine, but i have a 1/16" washer in there so its probably 3/16" stock.
i said screw it and slapped on a corsair spinner, as ill probably go through a thousand nosecones otherwise. it doesnt look too bad, but i dont care at all about looks...or all that much

The spinner is pretty bad, I'll have to look around for a replacement. A T-28 prop will fit without modifications. APC-E props will not.

to maintain balance, i cut backwards into the body, not forward into the firewall. if ihad a brain, i probably would have dug out some of the canopy instead of trying to dig out the body. there is a nice 11/16" wide 1/2" deep rib that would have shaved out nicely.

the t-28/corsair prop is has a larger diameter hole than the p-51, a coned washer is needed.

Skyking213,
Which Alfa(s) do you have? How would you compare this P-51 in terms of slow handling abilities?

My prime flying site is slightly small, 400ft x 150ft, more than enough for helicopters but I can't have these planes going very fast.

Do you guys really just tape the stab into place on these things? Not sure I would trust the elevator hinges either....
