I have only flown it a couple of times and both times with a tad bit of wind so hard to tell. I'll try upping the EXPO and see if that helps any, linkages are tight so that not the issue. Thanks for the recommendation Chuck!

what fan/motor upgrade do you recommend for the 4s version? I flew it today with 4 cells 2200 30c and was not impressed by the top speed. I have wicked plus 4000 kv with balanced fan, would it work? What turnigy motor would you recommend in the stock fan with upgarded HET 6904 fan?

I know this is an odd question but is it possible to us a 3s battery in the Squall HP? Typically I use a 4s 2500 but I have a few extra 3s 2200's that I have laying around it would be nice if I could use them for the squall as well. Has anyone tried this before? Appreciate any feedback.

Hmm, a 4S setup on a 3S would be slow and may not fly at all. The Squall came as a3S option but the motor was a higher KV.

I use the motor Typhoon 2W20 with a Wemotec fan and 4s Nanotech 2650.
Wemotec Fan is better than Het fan on the Squall.

The 3s motor is 3800Kv and the 4s motor is 3400Kv in the stock squall motors.
Gildas it doesn't matter what fan you use in a Squall. The stock intake is around 140% FSA.
You want fast you gotta rework the intake and duct, ad a thrust tube w/2in dia exit. The stock motor is a throw away along with the esc, try a CC 125, ARC 28-47-1 for low end high power. You pick the fan because they all seem the same above 1000 watts except for the stock throw away junk.

Apex, you mean that the actual exhaust diam of 6cm (2,36in) is to much ?
If you reduce the exhaust diam by 2in, you get a better venturi effect and more thrust, but what about the length of the exhaust vs diam and what about engine surge ? On real jet engine you got complex regulation to avoid surge, I mean too much air too fast in the intake tube and the exhaust cannot "swallow" such an amount and you can blow you turbine. I know we are not on real jet engine, but how do you make the calculation between intake diam, exhaust diam and tube length to get the best thrust?

Thanks for the feedback, I'm not really looking to mod the squall any just was curious if I could use the 3s 2200 in it, thats all. I have a few laying around and it would be great if I could.

Timewarp, I don't think you'd go wrong at all! Throw that thing in the air! It should fly well on 3s stock with no VT unit.
Gildas, in reworking mine for speed I extended the duct and trimmed the edges up front to reduce the intake at aprox 85% fsa and the exhaust tube at 2" or about 78% give or take, I totally reworked the foam airframe with carbon and only gained 3oz after paint! It's my skid plate and inlet that weigh now!

Where can I get a good deal on a 4S Squall in the U.S.?
Is it good out of the box or should I get a kit a build from there?

Well this past weekend I did run a nanotech 3s 2200 in my Squall HP without VT. It does work but you can tell she is underpowered. You need a long strait run to get up to speed once at speed you are okay but you definatley have to keep the speed up because the thrust is just not there.

At least now a I know it can be done and a 3S can be run in the 4S setup. woot woot!
