a mate of mine flies the stock 4s version , im impressed with both the performance and the flight times , he gets almost a minute more than my het set up using the same batteries , so okl the hett is a little faster and vertical performance is better but the flight times suffer

That is what it costs to send a big box across the globe with Express mail

I haven't modified mine. It is a stock 3 cell lipo powered version, but I did get the vector thrust unit to stick on the back. It flies great. But with three cells if you get it into a high alpha slow speed mode, it doesn't have enough power to pull out of it. Thus if you are too close to the ground, you wind up making a controlled landing like that as you can't get the nose down to fly out of it. But it sure does a wicked buzz saw like effect for the roll rate. Too fast to count.

sorry its taken so long to get the photos of my scoop up apex but here they are ,i think there is around 150mm extra length on the scoop , its angled up to make a better skid for landings , the inlet is 100mmx 30mm wide

Yea man, the lower profile should give better aerodynamics! Did you run a thrust tube?
I'm jealous of your checkering ability!

Squall

Since we're doing show and tell here, I thought I'd share some pictures of my nearly completed Squall. Stock set up but I decided to go a different route in the color. Blue paint is Cyrlon H2O and the graphics just vinyl. From what I've read the bottoms can get beat up so I added some plastic toward the front of the inlet and did some beefing up a bit inside but now enough to disrupt the airflow. I might end up putting a bit more on the bottom. Also thinking a using a control horn on the nose. Thoughts?

now that does look nice

the scoop tends to catch if your landing on grass , one of the guys at the club has a carbon rod that runs from the lip of the scoop to just behind the nose it acts a little like a skid it helps but not completely stops the scoop from digging in , if your running the 4s set up bring your cog a little forward than the book says . and be careful if there is little wind as they land fast ..lol...

On top, but you painted the bottom didn't you?

P.D. nice blue hue! If you're light weight its easy enough to swoop in at low speed then nose up and let the butt touch first with the throttle. Don't try to skid it in on grass or you'll go home in a few pieces. Me? I lay on a sheet of cling wrap then layup a couple layers of carbon cloth, let set, pop off and trim to shape with siczors and glue on with RTV to the bottom for a skid pad on black top. (most of the time)
