My #1 green lantern used a vt, het 6904/85amp esc and 3000 4s was glassed with wbpu and rustolium right at 2+ lb flew well till Rx probs.

Thanks for the quick reply i think i'm going to be looking at around about the same weight possiby a bit less. Using a 252gram lipo HET 6904 fan unit and 1w30 motor

hey guys just got me a squall 4cell on order and just wanted to dive in to the thread. I just wanted to ask a few questions that I am sure have been answered a few times already. So did they fix the problem with the fan units that would explode in a dive? and last any mods I should do during the build? I will be running stock. Thanks

I run clear packing tape along all the leading edges, as well as the bottom belly pan / intake. There is a fiberglass replacement belly pan that is openable which would be nice. However if this is your first one I wouldn't put that much money or work into it.

Reinforce the front base of the bellypan with something strong. I used some modelling plywood. While ugly it is very effective.

Start with CG at least 5mm forward of their suggested CG. Have someone else throw it for you that knows how to throw. Roll is incredibly sensitive!

I am running at minimum control surfaces and still 30% travel on my dual rates!

When landing keep pulling back on the elevator so that it lands at the slowest possible speed. You should be in a fairly high alpha when it finally lays down in the grass. It takes a lot to stall this plane. You can build up a wire nose-wheel skid if you like. When the belly touches down it causes the nose to lawn-dart into the ground. If you provide a 1.5" skid it will allow the plane to slide a little without digging in.

A 252g batt? Two things with that motor, you better have a 125 esc and you better have at minimum a 30C pack of at least 3300 for 3.5min of flight. A batt that weighs 252g would last 25 sec with that motor. I have one nib if anyone wants it.

are running 70% of 100% or 30% of 100% on aileron rates?

Well I would certainly start out at the suggested values. Mine was nowhere near trim at first, if I had small throws I probably couldn't have even flown straight. So I mechanically trimmed it, then threw it again, trimmed it, then lowered my rates to suit me. It does not take a lot once it's trimmed out.

I think he meant 30% expo on low rates?

I think that for Take Off you need normal rate because speed is low and flight controls are not very effective: there is no propeller blowing them.
Then you can select dual rate, once you got some speed.
