You should be able to run the HP motor on 3 cells with the 5 blade rotor http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/109465.asp less power than the 3800Kv 3 cell motor, but much more than the 3 blade rotor/3400Kv on 3 cells.

Hi All,
Finally got the mold done for the P3 Squall ESC Fairing. Whether it’s a stock motor on 3 cells or one of the high performance setups on 4 cells it will add speed and performance to an already outstanding performer at next to nothing in weight, cost and installation time. http://morganmill.com/RC/rc-site-10-7-08_033.htm Cheers! Just got the 3s version. Was too cheap and couldnt resist it.(shouldnt really be buying new planes right now!) Was thinking of not running the rudder to save weight. Anyone flying "rudderless". Not really looking for wild aerobatics just the most speed I can milk out of her.

Rudder is optional.
Some FAST custom Squalls http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1167614 Not so much for saving weight though, more for aerodynamics. I think a few are in the 3 lb+ range. |

Also grabbed on of these http://www.hobbypartz.com/75m96-ducted-2220-2700.html Re-wound it with 5 turns 20 gauge Delta,Reamed the adapter for 1/8 inch, and now get 550 watts at 48000RPM on the stock squall 3 blade fan, Stock motor was 450 watts at 43000.
I think Im going to make a ply or glass ring to take up some of the gap between the blade and housing. I have a WM400/2W20 setup, but its more than twice the weight of the stock fan, I might go with it later though. Not a bad power upgrade for $21 and a few hours of killing my fingers ![]() Dylan |

I finally got to maiden my Squall today. Wow! What a handful! It makes my Stryker feel like a trainer. Good thing I read a good bit of this thread so I was prepared when it shot straight up upon hand launching. Managed to flatten her out and get her going. This is my first EDF and my first narrow plane so I was really surprised how roll sensitive it was. I thought I had the rates pretty low but this thing would still roll like crazy. I shortened the travel a good bit more with my radio for the second flight and it was better. Sure does come in hot but I guess that's to be expected when such a small plane is carrying lots of battery. 2650 4s in mine. All stock except for Turnigy 3700kv motor. Worst thing about it is I can't fly it at some spots since it needs lots of space to get woed up. Can't wait to do it again.
