New Product
1952 Century Sea Maid '18' -1/6th scale

Well the St. Lawrence River Skiff is finished in the work shop so it’s time to clean up for the next project for Legend Model Boats, the 1952 Century Sea Maid ‘18’ built in 1/6th scale. This is the next boat in the series “Boats of the Antique Boat Museum of Clayton, NY., which we are now manufacturing. The model will be double planked, mahogany over hard balsa, and be completely laser cut. M.A.C.K. Products Precision Running Hardware will be included in the kit as with all Legend Model Boat kits, allowing the modeler to build the model as strictly static display model, or with the additional Power Package, radio controlled.

For those of you that have been saying , someone should bring back the STERLING MODELS, well we thought we would do you one better. We will be building all are models from the very start, designed for radio control, with the greatest attention to detail possible, to allow you the modeler to produce an award winning model of the subject.

To that end we are posting the two view drawing of the finished model, which will be included in the kit, for your viewing , and possibly wet your appetite for your next project.

Rick, Are you taking orders in advance? If so I want to place an order. I'm building the Sterling Century Sea Maid again for the fourth time. Knowing your producing her in 1/6 scale I might just put my Sterling on the "To Be Completed in the Future" shelf.

As of yet nothing is nailed down in that we have to do a proof build of the planes and then get the final cost of the laser cuts of the kit. The M.A.C.K. running hardware is already done, but the carvings for the deck hardware have to be finished , cast up and plated along with some stamping which we have to get pricing for. I would have to say that this kit should be some were in the $350.00 range.

By the way the model will be 35 inches in length with a beam of 12 1/2 inches. The 18’ Sea Maid was the next size down from what Sterling Models modeled which was the Sea Maid 20’. Believe it or not when you look at the two boats the only real way you can tell them apart other than measuring them is by the deck step pads. The 20’ had two per side centered in each cockpit, the 18’ had one step pad centered between the two cockpits.

Oh yea! The 18’ Sea Maid was faster than the 20’ with the Racing Fireball 160 with triple carbs and duel exhaust. This was the same motor that was used in the Century Thunderbolt.

The motor in the power package is the M.A.C.K. Model Marine Motor #5045. This is the back bone motor which we first developed when we first started manufacturing , some 37 years ago, and it is still going strong. This was one of our first very big investments in that we had the motors made to our specs for power and low amp draw.
