Sniper II construction and discussion thread

So, the first batch of Sniper II's arrived today.

Before I get to processing the incoming inventory, I just had to crack open my kit

Packaging is extremely well done. Canopy is yellow FG, that will eventually get some paint!

Here is the initial batch. Lee and I are trying to keep the kits available at a very competitive price compared to the competition, which really there doesn't seem to be much in this class, but in the 425 sized machines...

Ok, now back to work... Not building...

Right now work = processing inventory, getting Gothelirc his order and handling a small flood in the basement due to big rain storm and loss of power... (Not quite in that order )

There you go. Who cares if the basement furniture washes away? Couple of us are pretty curious about this one. Thanks for starting the thread.

Excellent!

Don't think I'll get to too much over the weekend... I may be coming down with something though, I don't think it will really hit me until Monday morning

Manual for the flybarless head - this should work on other 425mm bladed machines....

Looking Good! Are you going to take a 1000 pictures like Kai did on the first Sniper build?

LOL

Probably not. This is a pretty simple build, everything fits great. I'll point out all the unusual stuff, but hopefully you guys can comment on things I missed!

This is starting to look really good!

(One is still available at the shop and more are on the way!)

Hey, I think I only "took" like 998 pictures, don't make up a number (just kidding of course).

Looks great Pete, can't wait to see more of it (hopefully I'll get some pics of my V1's and Matt's V2 when he gets his built).

Excellent Kai!

Here are some more of the head with some comments... Take note of the interesting inner swash ball arrangement...

That offset inner swash-ball arrangement is the same setup as on the Sniper 1 head. It was the easiest way to keep the links in close to the main shaft so they don't strike the flybar bridge. It's an eligant design.

I did notice that when breaking in the Sniper head, it's tight just like a new MaxiR / Ricco. You'll have that hysteresis until things loosen up unless you take time to work all those links.

The ball location change on the swash is a great idea. The washout has been a little stiff so far, didn't surprise me. Like you said, just like the little guys. Keeps things tight.

More pics. Tail went together perfectly.

When putting the drive shaft through the boom, lube the O rings with lithium grease or something similar. It will help get them started and they will go in smoothly. Completed assembly.
