A couple of NOTAR'S I've seen run an EDF from a electric jet up front of the tail boom, a few inches behind the main shaft. Running a separate battery and have a variable puffer run by a servo at the back to direct the air this is connected to a gyro.

But as to your answer neither! The fan blows directly down the tail boom, the fan being near the top end. With adjustable vents at the rear to control air flow and direction. Someone posted about it on one of these threads ages ago. With a flying video.

I know the fan blows down the shaft. Two ways I have seen are listed above. These are pic I took here in KC

Can anyone give me some tips on how to get a stable hover. I know its pretty low to the ground but its super windy outside at the moment. I cant seem to keep a constant altitude. it keeps "bobbing" up and down

What is the pitch curve setting , have you make the pitch in hovering from 35%to 75% a little flat it mean let the pitch curve (slower). because 450 size are also high head speed . the reation is almost fast and not easy get stable if the pitch too sensitive . you must make the hovering section pitch slow !see the drawing . and if you fly in normal thottle curve , it mean the motor speed have change follow the stick , it is most diffcult . in my experience , keep the thottle in idal-up . just control the pitch . it is more stable .don't make two changing factor add together . idal-up flying have one changing factor only !. so it is more easy to fly especial in windy condition landing ! if you lower the motor and light blades , very very hard to landing your model .

Dont look to bad considering youre in a room where the air is not being dispersed as it would in a very large room or outside.

You might want to try weighted blades that what i got on all my heli's and they fly pretty good out doors in 5 to 8 mile per hour wind here's one of them

Had a fortunate surprise yesterday. Bell factory 429 was out on a demo tour and stopped in to Merritt Island, Florida. I was able to grab a few pictures and talk with the pilot briefly.
