PBY Catalina (Guanli) Brushless Suggestions

Hello,

I've purchased the arf version of the Guanli Catalina and plan on putting in some brushless motors along with a tri blade prop.

I will be flying off a mountain lake around 8000 ft. elevation so I don't mind a setup that may be slightly overpowered.

Please let me know your suggestions for powering this plane.

Maybe ask over in the Power System forum. I think there would be a wealth of knowledge over there.

I have the same plane...crashed it good 2X but fixed it pretty easy. I'm at sea level and I'm going to put 2 of these in it running on a 11.1v 2200 mah lipo.

Hi, I have this same bird and i have up graded to brushless. I used 2 FC28-22 1200 kv motors from Hobby City, the specks they give are 14.5 amp max on a 10 inch prop and 3s lipo suppling around 700 grams thrust. I am very happy with my power level now, I can place the Cat on the ground-no wheels and it will power off the ground no problem. I use a set of 9 inch three blade props with a 7 pitch. I am not anywhere near your altitude so I can't say how much power loss you might see. I have not pushed this bird to see what it is cappable of as it just looks so cool flying in scale fashion. I have made several flights from water as well and have come to the conclusion I need to fabricate a water rudder. Hope some of this is helpful. Good Luck.

In the video i was at around 9000 ft. elev. and had no problem what so ever with power.

Very helpful. It looks like your setup works well at high elevations. I would like to have a tri blade prop for a closer to scale appearance.

I have heard the the Turingy motors may be a good fit. I'm looking at the 2209 from United Hobbies.
