A few people have asked quite detailed questions about the wiring of the airplane, so here is a much more detailed wiring diagram

Nice job Mike. Undoubtedly one of the best FPV setups in the States. I am working hard to put a descent station together here. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Hi, thank you for the diagram, it is great. Why three line buffers? FMA suggest only one.

you need one for each input to the copilot... the buffer adds a few milliseconds of delay to the signal. Futaba PCM recievers output all 9 signals at the same time, so this is why the buffers are necessary.

say the buffer adds 50ms of time to the signal... that means

Aileron 0ms
control 50ms
Elevator 100ms

you only need one if there is no control line and you are using a fixed gain

I'm sure someone will tell you that you get what you pay for and to ignore my suggestion, but the best receiver I've ever used for FPV was a Coronoa RP8D1 synthesized 8-channel one. They are dirt cheap, like 20-25 bucks if I recall. I've been as far as 2km with the receiver about 6 inches away from a 1.5W transmitter with no issues.

Edit - didn't realize there were multiple pages to this thread!

I squeezed a flight in today before some storms blew in... the wind was about 20-25mph and when gliding, I was not making much headway! I was just parked overhead!

All in all a nice flight in a new location.

We spent the weekend with friends at their beach house in North Carolina. I was able to bring my plane and got 2 good flights in on the beach.
