That's a fact, these remarkable slopers DO love the heavy stuff. Their energy retention is simply amazing (and that's with no ballast). Yet on a light day, they're reliable and steady and can hang on a mere summer breeze.

Very nice Cheetah BTW. Your weight is exactly the same as mine and EJ's. Although we totally sheeted everything with balsa. Thought yours might be lighter.

This thread is it so far that i know of in RCG. You would need to find a fuselage and somebody with some cores or templates to have them cut. This plane is out of circulation, hence the restoration done in this thread. Find an old SC and she will look and fly good as new again. Old Cheetahs never die. I have seen a few on Ebuy.

I think that cheap poster paper stuff may actually be heavier than balsa sheeting... It is pretty durable though. Mine would be a couple oz lighter if I hadn't done the lateral balancing which took two big steel nails pushed into the right wing tip (you can see the nail heads in the above pic). There is also some lead in the nose for CG.

New and Old

Here's a couple pictures. One of my old Cheetah and two of the new one I just completed today. The old one, built in '93 I think, goes to a friend that has
always wanted one and the new one is mine (pending a good Maiden today).

Nice job. Looks like it flies great, despite being 8oz heavier than mine. Sweet tip drag on that one low pass! What was the wind speed?

Wind was like 15 +/- 5mph, but the lift was better than the wind speed showed. It's like that at Glider Point. If it's straight in, the lift can beat the wind speed, if that makes sense. I mean I go to other slopes and there's a lot of wind and not so much lift. Bigger hills too. It funnels up nice here.

Flew my Super Cheetah in 55 mph winds yesterday at "point-of-the-mountain" Utah. Wow! Had to ballast up good, first with 8 extra oz of lead when the wind was only 40, and then with a full pound later as it picked up. Those 4 oz duck decoy anchor straps work well and are easy to tape however many you need to the bottom of the fuselage at CG. It flew awesome, and didn't seem to mind the magnum wind and weight at all. What a blast!
Next time I need to get some video...

Hey L2F,
It does my heart good to hear a similar SC flying experience like we used to do back in the 90's. Aren't they awesome loaded up all dirty and heavy? We loaded two 16oz bars on top of the wing on CG and ripped up the sky in howling winds like you no problem. And these birds are held together with rubber bands! I must have put a dozen or more bands fearing the wing would fly off. No way man, she just dug in and delivered some of the most memorable flights of all time. Great report, keep it up.
