Don't give up hope - I'm pleased to report that Dusk has again nailed the fault correctly, though he doesn't get to collect a prize this time around.

Okay, we have our first prize winner, it's Glydr from Canberra AU, well done.

That leaves one more LMA still to be claimed.

Hints

* There are no bridges / shorts
* All the parts are there
* All the parts are correctly orientated
* Your brain is tricking you into seeing something that isn't there, just because it is there for every other part.

The fault is that there's no solder on the right hand pad of the LED at the front of the unit. If you look at the pad and around it, you'll see there's no discolouration or matte effects.

To really see it from another angle (which would have made it a clear give-away), see the photo attached.

Drat, missed the chance on defect 2.

Sent a PM for no. 1 but of course that doesn't give a subscription to the thread. Subscibed now though

Come on Paul, how about another boo boo

Oh, I've been trying all week to make another one but nothing has happened yet.

Perhaps this weekend I can conjure a fault

##CLOSED## Competition #3, Starting June 13. - For the GLORY now.

The fault: The track emerging from R10 hasn't been properly drilled, there's a fine trace left which is all that was needed to stop the circuit behaving properly

---------------------------------------
Well, it happened, I managed to conjure up a fault, amusingly it occured while I was fixing a PCB layout fault.

The prize for the day is the PLD-ESJ-CHG-RX, which is a nice replacement for those traditional on/off switches without the risk of failure from dirty contacts and vibration.

The board today is a new Lipo Normaliser board, unfortunately I found there was a fault in the design and I had to make some fixes which is why there's the odd red-wire on the assembly. The fix involved disconnecting the track in front of R2, R10 and R17, then linking a wire from the break over to R3, R9 and R16 respectively.

Anyhow, the middle circuit doesn't quite work, it turns on, the discharge process for Normalising the lipo starts but it never gets turned off.

I'd consider finding this fault slightly harder than the others, certainly it took me a while with a big light and my reading glasses.

Usual rules;

* Send me a PM with what you think the error is
* You get as many attempts as you like
* Let me know if you're in it for the prize or the glory

Clarifications;

* All parts are the correct values
* All parts are in the right places and the right orientation
* Nothing is burned
* The white-threads are just from paper-toweling, they have no impact

WINNER List:
* Prize winners: Neil of Australia, jj604 of Australia
* Glory winners: Dusk of Australia (has gotten every one so far!), Gussy

Next step in the competition, making use of those "glory points"

For the last couple of weeks, I've been wondering to myself how to make use of those "glory" points and how to make people consider using them, rather than claiming the weekly price, I am pleased to report I've got an idea.

We'll run in addition to the weekly prize, a quarterly (3 month) prize which is selected based on who has the most glory-points. The glory prize will be worth a fair bit more than the weekly prize (not 12x more but still a reasonable amount).

I'll keep a running tally of points on the first-post of this thread.

To make it even more even, I'll now run the weekly competition for 72hours (3 days), during which even if the weekly prizes are claimed, you can still have a shot at getting glory points, so all is not lost

... let me know if you have any other ideas.

Paul.

Okay everyone, both prizes are now taken for the weekly comp, however the comp will continue to run for another couple of days so people can start racking up their initial glory-points on the table for the 3-month prize.
