I emailed hobbypeople and said it will be out in march or april. They said it will have a 480 not a 480 and around 8to 10 cells. They also said it is going to be blue not orange. I will be getting one of these when it comes out. There was a discussion on the wattage extra over in open discussion about 2 weeks ago.

Did you mean a 480 and not a 400?

Frank,

There is no price that I've heard yet. I'd expect you might see a listing and price on their website in the next few weeks or so.

Extra 330L

I've posted most of the specs-n-stuff before. You might try a search for other comments.

It has a 480 motor. It also has a ball bearing gear drive.

We'll have available a 10 cell, 800mah nimh pack for aerobatics. But, it takes off and flies fine with an 8 cell.

Wattage
Extra 330L
Item No. 128408
List Price: 159.99 Hobby People Price, 119.99
It will be on the web site after the final pictures are taken.
Length of Fuselage: 28.8 in
Wing Span: 32 in
Area: about 200 sq. in.
Flying Weight: about 24 oz

Mike,

Is that you holding the Extra being discussed on the latest issue of Model Airplane News?

That looks like a pretty cool plane.

Mike,

Put my name at the top of the list

Seriously though (and I was) - It wounds like a real nice deal especially with gear drive on a 480. Any good dates on when it will be available? I'll be saving my nickles for this one......

Yep, that's me. Plane looks better than the guy holding it. Well, I guess it's always that way. Maybe next year, I should hire a model to hold the models....

They are being made now. The directions are about done. Box art will be soon. So, probably in March or April.

The one I'm holding is Orange but the production will be Blue. I just don't think Orange will sell well.

We'll have information up on the web site pretty soon too.

Is hobbypeople going to have a combo on it. When I bought my Wattage Whisper you got everything you need to fly it for $150.00
Is the Extra going to have a combo?

I have to agree...I like the orange! Why not offer it in a couple of different colors for a bit of individuality?

Can't wait to get one. If it is constructed with the same quality as the Wattage Impress (which I just picked up), then it should be a good deal.

Thanks for the information Mike!

Well, For now, the plane will come in blue. Maybe if it sells really well, it will justify have 3-4 different colors for the same plane. However, it is really pretty in blue.

Yes, there will be a battery/ESC/plane combo. We are releasing some new hi-freq esc's this month. The combo will include one of those and some battery. We just haven't decided which one yet.

Partially, the decision on the battery/esc will be influenced by the final specs of the motor. This motor is the size of a 480 but we are trying to squeeze a little more performance out of it. So, we're researching different winds, etc.

This is a performance airplane so we want it to be good out of the box. Of course, you guys with brushless motors and cobalt motors will probably never use the stock set-up anyway. (I'm sure one of you will put some outrageous motor and battery combo in it. -Nothing wrong with that!)

Just so you know, the original prototype flew with the 380 motor from the Impress/Ezette. With that motor it flew fine. Just wasn't very aerobatic (kind of misses the point considering it's an Extra). Also, I've flown it in pretty high winds (using both the 380 and 480 motors) with no problems. The first day I flew it winds were gusting to 25mph and still, I flew out the battery several times that day. It really is a fun little plane. Interestingly enough, take offs and landings were very predictable and easy. For such a small plane, I was quite happy with the flying characteristics. You should see it Avalanche and Spin-very cool.

Also, this one will come with a ball bearing gearbox and 3 ratios so those of you who want to try 10 cells, different props, etc have a good starting point.

I'll keep you updated concerning the motor. I think our 480 will wind up being a very nice motor for its size and expense.
