Agree, this one seems particularly "brave".
A lightly built sparky would not be my first choice.
Designed for about 6:1 compression ratio, now asked to cope with 18:1 or more.

Diesel old and new

I was looking at an older MVVS 2.5 cc diesel. A seller was stating that he had a .25 diesel and did not seem to know the difference between the two sizes. Providing the head diameter measurements just seem to add to the confusion. There is no .25 diesel (MVVS), but there is a glow. The picture shows the size difference.

Twin-Stack, the Meyer store for men, basement hobby department. What neat diesels! Maybe someone has one of these engines and could share a few pictures with us? Warren, the 1.9 Kestrel?

Nice add for the Frog, “crash proof”. There seems to be a very big price difference between the Frog and the Kestrel. What was the better engine?

as requested, my Kestrel.
Runs well although the compression tends to back off.
A pity to add a locking lever to spoil the nice head shape so I'll make a new contra one day.

There was a 2.5cc MVVS tested in Nov '58 MA magazine. Could that be it ?

It could be the early 2.5 MVVS.

Chas, that your “sparky” ? Any specs on it?

Twin-Stack, for the year 1950, the Kestrel at pounds 7/2/12 seems very expensive. My ETA .15D was less than pounds 6 about 1961. And we have a picture of a real one above.

Warren, nice looking diesel, and display mount. Does the knurled ring at the bottom of the cylinder screw the cylinder on, or is it part of the cylinder.

Patmcc, I guess by older, I should have said 2 or 3 models past. At least 1970 or newer. Following site suggests a similar build to that of the 1977glow version shown.

Gkamysz, there’s a lot of really nice MVVS engines there. Nicely presented. I see a flavour for Dooling and McCoy racing engines. No, the MVVS the seller had was a 2.5 cc with a black plastic rear cover. Other than that it had the same carb and looks of the newer 2.5 with the blue anodized head.
I once had an older 2.5D MVVS, but the crank snapped when it was running. No, not a crash, but in the air. It was putting out power similar to a ST .19 glow.

No John, it was just a recent eBay item. Obviously the S. Cyclone, with shortened stacks and a custom tank as well as head - and I wouldn't care to turn that tommybar without my marigolds - but beyond that I know naw thing; it went for US $232.50.

Bensen-Thorning 2.5 cc

They don't turn up too frequently.....here is a Danish Bensen-Thorning 2.5 cc diesel from around 1949.
I found this photo at a Swedish auction site...and,no, I'm not bidding...

Fascinating stuff...

Few Yugoslavia produced diesel engines, AERO 250, late 1950s-early 1960s.

Thank you SuperCuber for posting the Aero 250 engines. Nice picture. Did these engines ever come with a RC carb? Can you tell us a little about their power with a given prop and at what rpm.

Well, they must have been pretty good because I remember that Emil Fresl or Yugoslavia became World Champion in free-flight with one of those in his "Taltos" model. Year??
