Mysterious parts

Hi,

I just came across a 'bag of bits', containing this complete NVA + a separate needle (in fact 2 of them...)

Could anyone here identify these parts.........as I haven't even a clue...


(mind, posting here doesn't necessarily mean that the parts come from diesels...)

Top one looks a little familiar....but I just can't remember where.
These are small NVA ( 1/2A, or 0.5cc) ?
Some one will have an engine with these units mounted on them, so maybe they can send us a picture???

The top needle with its 'cross-knurled' part, reminds slightly of AM....although a direct comparison shows that it isn't...
The fuel line fitting at the end of the spraybar with its turned 'multi-knurl' should be quite easily recognised...for the one who has seen one, that is....

As manufacturers often used uniform sized spraybars for wide ranges of engines, it is hard to judge the size of engine...I would say anything .049 up to .15....

This is similar enough to suggest that your 2nd NV might come from a Cameron engine. The attached is from my Cameron .09 "Rodzy" tether car. On my example the knurled thumb knob was placed on the end to facilitate turning it from outside the car body, but for other applications Cameron may have supplied the a NV in your example.

As long as we're talking needles. I got this with an engine it didn't fit. Over all length is almost 56mm.

Thanks Bob...!...and a quick googling shows that there's no doubt....


The top one has yet to be identified though....that distinctive 'multi-knurle' fuel line fitting must be quite unique, but I cannot recall having seen one before.....

I was helping a fellow modeller with his diesel engines over the weekend.
here is his Marz 2.5cc example being test run at my home. His engine was running amazingly well and was amazingly smooth too.


Here is a short video clip of when we were running the engine. i think it was its second tank of fuel at the time. First I ran my Davis Diesel fuel, and the second tank was from his old can of Aerodyne fuel. The old Aerodyne fuel needed a little more compression than the DDD fuel did, so I assume some of the ether had evaporated over time.
So we weren't trying to run it hard. I forget what the prop size was at the time.

The factory muffler is reputed to drop the power substantially on this engine. Of course I have not proven it myself. There has also been some discussion of crankshaft integrety as well.

Using fuel that requires a lower compression setting probably is good for all diesels. My feeling on glow engine conversions especially it is prudent.

I have heard that adding a little more ignitor to the fuel might enable this. Perhaps three percent rather than two percent considered the normally recommended amount. Anyone know?

Ignitor (amyl etc) really promotes smoothness...to run lower compression ratios you need more ether.
