Hello,

Is there a replacement for Ether in diesel fuel? Here in Colombia for reasons I dare not mention, ether is almost completely unavailable. And, I fly at 8.250 feet above sea level!!!!

It's a .75
As far as I remember prop's are in the 11 to 13 inch size.
Produced by Laser Engines back in 1990.

Here are photos of a later Laser .80 four stroke diesel. A couple years back a couple folks tried to get Laser to build another batch but no luck. Jack

Laser engines (Neil Tidey) did made a second batch of Diesel .80 engines.
As far as I remember this was at the late ninetees.
It had the later model look cyl.fins/cranckshaft body and other cyl.head design.

I contacted Neil during the mid ninetees for another Laser Diesel, but he didn't had any plans making another batch at that time.
Some years later I noticed he do had made another limited batch but unfortunately they were already sold by the time I noticed.

Thanks Twin Stack for locating those “mysterious” symbols. This ties in these diesels back to the same source.

Danny, Jack, nice pictures of the Lasers. They look to be exceptionally study in construction. Are the crank and rod extra “sturdy”?
Yes Mike, rather than sturdy, perhaps built for a tank better describes their robust appearing construction.

Edubarca, I know it’s not "wintery" where you are, but do the large diesel tractors use ether for starting? If so, there’s your source.

Rapmoz, doesn’t look like we’re getting much feed back on the water cooled heads. The one with the two bolt holes, maybe something like a 1 cc Clan (if one was ever made?) Perhaps check back to the beginning of this thread and look at all the different diesel pictures.

Warren, yes, perhaps a 3.5 Frog in the Lancer. My Frog was used in my very first RC attempt. A 6 ft span high wing called the Good Knight.

Yes, indeed ... a Clan .9cc was manufactured in Scotland (Glasgow I believe) in the late .40s. I think also another size but memory eludes me.

There were the 'real Clans' as distinct from the Clanford things .. nice little engines.

A tough little diesel for staters...?

Continuing with:The “unknown” diesel started on page 96 with a picture of the logo, post #1432.

Though this may not be the choice engine for every one, some one, at one time, had the love and desire to design and make it! I think this speaks "volumes" for modelers all around the world. We love modeling and what we do!

Here are the last pictures. Notice that the crank is not one solid piece, but made up of several "plates" or layers for the counter balance...certainly a different way to make this.
The piston and cylinder are really an excellent fit, most likely hand lapped.
This cylinder is very heavy walled, lots of extra metal, let's just say very "tough". The exhaust and transfer ports are conservative, but well machined.

I think this particular engine would work well for a "starter diesel" that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

OS .26 FS diesel

These pictures are of an OS.26 FS diesel sent in from Sulman.
He says it is slightly better than running on diesel, instead of glow fuel. The fuel consumption on diesel was half of that of glow, too.
This OS .26 FS was converted to diesel by Greg Kamysz

You might try dimethyl ether which has a similar autoignition temp as its diethyl ether homologue. I used to (legally) export fair quantities of anaesthetic grade diethyl ether to a distributor in Guayaquil/Quito Ecuador, but dn't know if they're still in business.
