I figure the big wheel had to do with the geometry of the fixed pedals, anything smaller would leave you with maybe little speed, making it harder to keep upright. Just brainstorming. Chain drive with coasting may not have been invented, you think?

That draisine thing looks like it just makes walking harder, and the downhill rides are likely the only time it is any fun at all, and I imagine sitting on it, on a dirt road, you get your teeth vibrated out.
