The motor is the FC22 or whatever it is.. The recommended $7 motor. The Assassin itself is in horrible shape as the ultrcoat is all loose and falling off, and the motor mount is hardly taped on anymore and the prop saver o-ring is dead.. but still works well enough. I'll give it a rebuild one of these days.

The 1500 battery is good for about 2-3 tows like shown on the video and it is DEAD. In normal combat that battery is good for 15-20 minutes!

We are still learning what works and what does not. With these planes we have found an aggressive climb to altitude works best. The finless Assassin quickly becomes the weak link in the tow as you have a hard time telling where the plane is pointed. My buddy with the glider wanted me to go higher, but I was at the limits of my vision for this plane. (The plane does some weird things while towing depending on where the other plane is, and mine loves a slow roll to the left while towing.)

We will keep playing, and add a servo operated tow release to the glider. Eventually we will probably swap the tow plane to something more suitable. But hey, you should all give it a try.. it is a hoot!

We used the CF 28-12 stock motor when we shot this V8 bomb drop video too. The launch was a little tricky but it flew amazingly well with the extra 12-13 oz payload and wind resistance from the can under the wing. I'm not surprised it will tow a glider. We were pulling a 50 foot streamer on it a couple of weeks ago too and it did well too.

The fat airfoil has a lot of lift for a flying wing.

Hi Lee.

I just want to know if i could cut my own Assassin wing for my personal use?
It's winter here and that will be my winter project.
If yes can I have more details?
How do you setup the jig?
How far from the anchor point do I have to put the foam?
Well you see, well I hope!
I looked at the videos at utahflyers.com but I want to do it just right.
I am preparing my cutting tables an my cutting bow!
I'm waiting for my transformer to make my power supply and have order some test foam. I will start by practicing on pink foam
Here is a picture of my block cutting table with the squares:

If you do not want to post all the details here, you can send me a PM.

I hope I will spawn some interest at my club here in Quebec and start to have some good wing fights

Can't wait to have all my material to start cutting my own wings

Thanks for your answers.

I'm making a couple of videos showing things you should check on your plane before flying.

How to preflight a RC flying wing 12-09 (4 min 22 sec)

We are having a race and quality check between Youtube and Vimeo

Place a straight edge across the bottom of the wing and align the elevons with the straight edge.
Level with the bottom of the wing.
When your done it will look like the elevons are up just a little bit when viewed from the top.
Total elevon throw, 1/2" up and the same down.
Good luck

Chico John,

Perfect. That's what I needed, and thanks for the recommended amount of throw.

can anyone suggest a stronger, faster motor for the assassin. I love the plane but want more speed out of it. Im looking on keeping it simple and cheap still.
Thanks

With that said, know that the Assisson is a combat plane, it's thick and is not intended to fly fast and you may not be happy with it's high speed performance.
But that's what big motors and small planes are all about, bolt them together and see what happens.

Fast is good too. I have seen a variety of faster motors being used. Double check the CG with the heavier motor and still try to keep it light.

The airfoil can carry a lot of weight but it's slow flight is better the lighter it is.

We maidened two of the three Assassins today. What a great wing. Ours came in at 16.5-17ozs. The power setup recommended is a good choice. Good slow flying characteristics too. CG @ 6.5" from the nose seems perfect.

Don't know if it will be much faster, but it will make more noise.

If you are looking for a speed plane, this is not it.

Not looking for a speed plane but rather a different motor. Can't decide which one i want.
