Set screws

If you have a dremel tool grind a couple flats where the set screws will meeet the motor housing. The motor isn't going to fall out but it will spin on the mont and if you get the screws too tight the bearing distorts and burns the rollers, it's a balance of tight but not too tight.
I just rewired mine and doubled the power, at least it feels that way, but I'll have to cut some flats to prevent it from spinning on the mount.
For sure get lock-tite for the set screws, the prop saver on the shaft too.
Good luck.

I frequently get asked for tips on how to hand launch a plane. I realized that I had a few launches on the last couple of cards that I had shot so I threw a few of them together to let you see what we do.

The planes shown are an Assassin, Titan, Reaper, Deep Reaper, Hercules pusher and Storm Chaser.

Enjoy.

bushless motor

I have my Assassin on the way but I need some advise. I am looking at a rimfire 400(from great planes) for the motor with a 8x6 prop. will it have to much torque? is it the "right" motor for this plane?

Burma-
What's the kv?
I can only guess, but I think it'll be fine.
Scroll up to the vid and see the blue Assassin, the motor in that guy is basically a 480 class 1700kv motor and 7x6

Ok, launching and I don't get along.

My assassin wants to roll left at launch. Cg feels ok, but I'm no expert. What's the best thing to try? I'd try meeting up at a field, but it's hard to get time on weekends right now.

I lifted the left elevon and got some improvement, but it needed a lot and didn't really level out.

It sure is tough though. A number of decent hits and no damage.

So, where is your cg?

Is the prop on backwards?

How much throw do you have on your elevons?

Are you sure your controls are set up properly (reversed channels etc?)

After some ha trial and erros - I had been trying to let it go when Horizonal
no good AS it would roll to the left PDQ and ya had to be quick on the right stick to level .

so Watched my friend, as he had some time on Wing and I found by letting it go when Wing was in a kinda in a right bank , then I had time to get on the stick and fly off level............te

Just noticed I neglected to specify cg. Lol it's about 7" back from the nose tip.

Prop feels like I'm putting it on backward, but reading here that's normal. The side that has the deeper recess that fits the little plastic adapter it comes with better is facing rear, away from the motor. thrust feels good.

I'm not sure how to measure the throw. Going from the back edge on the elevons I get about 1/2 inch on left/right about an inch at the diagonals.

I compared my stick vs elevon programming to the videos and directions, everything looks good. I haven't really touched the stick yet though. I give about 1/2 throttle and attempt to launch. I'm doing it sidearm like lee, but not really throwing it, more just letting it go. I tried holding the middle under the prop, but tossing that way gets me a nosedive before I get a chance to throttle up. I could be to slow on the throttle though.

Thanks, I'll try that. I was trying to release more level.

Sounds like your CG is too far back.
Recommend CG on the Assassin is 6.25 to 6.5 in
Probably the 6.25 is around where you want it to be until you get it flying well.

Throws are a little big for the Assassin especially for a newer flyer.
The plane flies well with about 3/8 in throws.
Set the throws up so that you are in the topmost hole on the elevon horn, and kind of middle-to-inner-ish on the servo arm.

When you pull straight back on the stick, both elevons should travel 3/8 in. upwards.

I thought I had it closer to 6.5 before. I'll try adding some nose weight. Hopefully that helps. I'll lower the throws as well.

I need to get some practice and keep it in the air, so you ninjas can have something to hit in a couple weeks.

The rods are set up as you describe already.
