I will spare the video, there is not much to see, i couldnt keep it steady enough in the wind to get any good video.

Thanks in advance.
Pat.
It is hard to tell with the angle and the picture. The motor mount should be at 90 degrees and should mount flat against the bottom of the wing.

fishon2: You are definitely over-volting those servos.

4 AA batteries will provide 6 volts.
2 lipo cells will provide 7.4 volts (higher when it's charged up)

Most servos are rated in the 3-7 volt range. A 2S lipo is too much voltage. In fact, it's too much for most receivers, which is why you can buy these:

Ok, so I need to either get a BEC or a true receiver battery?

fishon2: You do have a third option: buy a high voltage receiver and servos, which you can use with your 2S lipo pack with no voltage converter. This is probably the most expensive option.

actually the rx is rated from 3.5 to 9.6 volts.... and I really have never seen a rx that you dont just plug the esc into.... witha 2s or 3s or whatever plugged into the esc for power.

I am inclined to believe there is a problem with that rx. Or the esc . Were you able to successfully bind the rx to your tx? I've seen the dancing servos before when I selected PCM output on the tx instead of PPM.

Other than that I have no clue.

Sorry

Hey Mike,
I used to use those little inner plastic rings too and I wondered why I was the only one that was loosing them. Turns out, nobody I fly with is using them! They told me you just ream out the prop a bit until it fits over the prop adapter. I tried it and it works great! No more stupid plastic pieces to loose!

Hope that helps.

Is there an ESC involved? It seems like he is powering the rx directly with the battery.

I rewound my motor and learned a bunch of stuff about these motors in the process (Wikipedia, Google, etc.).

When I unwound the stock 28-12, I found that there were +/- 12 turns around each tooth (3 strand wire). So, not to reinvent the brushless wheel, I followed the instructions in the video by Steve (Post #2) and did 10 turns and used the 26 gauge green single strand Radio Shack wire.

Before I took the motor apart, I hooked up a battery and a power meter to my ESC, put a couple pieces of electrical tape across from each other (180 deg) on the bell of the motor, and used a tach with a flashlight to measure Kv without prop (rpm/v). The stock motor was 1480, the rewound motor 1780. So, it looks like I increased Kv 20% by going from 12 to 10 turns.

I haven't tested amp draw yet with a 7x6 prop but will probably look for a 7x4 prop before heading out to the field.

Are you sure?

I though that most of the motors I unwound (stock) had 10 winds. Its been a while since I looked at it, but I also thought this calculator showed 10 winds to be about 1500kv:
