As one of the guys that helped work on these I can tell you that many different views and concerns were considered when we put these together.
Believe me, I would rather not have any rules to worry about but unfortunately some people will either willfully or unknowingly do things that are just plain dangerous or disrespectful. I am sure that there will be plenty of suggestions at the next meeting and that is what we want! If there is something in the rules that needs to be taken out or changed, then we can do that! But there has to be a consensus within the members. There are some things that I would like to not have to worry about or do when flying at the field, and if I had my own land where I could fly and set my own rules, I would do some things differently. However, you have to consider the big picture and understand that we are trying to appeal to a wide variety of fliers. I think John Metcalf is going to post a FAQ section in the Safety section of the website to try to give a little insight as to how we came up with some of the proposed rules. Otherwise, if you have specific questions, post them here and I will be happy to explain why we proposed a certain rule. Hopefully this can help clear up some things and reduce the time needed to discuss this stuff at the next meeting. Please just remember that anyone can access these forums. John,
The purpose for this thread is to get members to read the proposal and comment. We have a large number of members that won't read it ahead of time and won't have comments ready for the meeting. They will try to read it during the meeting. I want to have a productive conversation about the rules that will govern our club for the forseeable future. I want to spur other members to voice any concerns they have before the meeting / vote not after when it will do no good. My comments will be sent to John M. tomorrow. I urge everyone to read the proposal. If you like the new rules, tell them! If you think a change is needed, tell them! Trey |

I agree, I wish more people would use this forum and read everything ahead of time. Sure would help things move along at the meeting.
Here is a link to the Safety section with FAQ's for questions that are being received. If you have a question that you would like addressed, email myself and Bob and CC John M. if you don't have our email addresses, PM me and I will send them to you. http://www.charlotteaeromodelers.org/field-safety.cfm Thanks, John Last edited by techspy; May 19, 2009 at 02:55 PM. |

I see your point Richard. I think anyone can bring up a motion at any meeting to make a change and if there is a second it would be voted on. At least that is my understanding, someone correct me if I am wrong. But, if this is the case, they could be changed or amended anytime. If we say they can not be changed at all for a year, and we find something that just doesn't work, we will be stuck.

Yes I Agree, But We Are Changing The Rules Everytime That Someone Has A Idea! And This Does Not Work. The Guys That Fly Every Week Work Things Out Between Each Other. Without A New Rule. Please Just Walk Soft. Thanks |

I am not sure what you mean by changing the rules every time someone has an idea. I haven't seen a change since I have been a member. I do agree that there seems to have been "implied" rules that I have heard people talk about at the field but if they aren't in the CAM rules they are just someones opinion and not enforceable. I also agree that for the most part the regulars at the field work it out amongst themselves but then again, in my short time as a member I have seen quite a few difference of opinions that have come up between members and some incidents that got out of hand. I have also seen safety issues that happened that shouldn't have, 2 of which could have EASILY caused serious injury or death, and it just so happened that I was one of the people very close to being the victim. If you want specifics I will tell you privately as I do not want to point fingers at anyone particular on this public forum.
When we sat down to come up with the new proposed rules the very FIRST thing we decided on was that we didn't want to get nit-picky and try to make a rule for every little thing. Our hope was that some general safety guidelines would be enough and that common sense would prevail. I admit that a couple things need to be tweaked or maybe taken out all together, but we need input on what exactly is an issue. So, if there is anything in the rules that is wrong or just doesn't belong, bring that specific point up. By the way, where are you flying this weekend? |

"Common sense" is the problem. One persons idea of what "common sense" is IS NOT the same as another person. I like to stand in the runway and fly a plane 150MPH 30 feet off the ground around myself. I am following AMA Competition guidelines. Most "occasional" flyers would not call this "common sense".
I believe that you should NOT write rules that cover every little thing that could come up. Hit the major items and other smaller things that the group as a whole is passionate about. I have solved my problem by chooseing to fly when very few are around. I have spoke to everyone who flies with me and have worked out a system that works for us. John, Bob, Ron and George, thank you for putting all your time and effort into this. I, for one, know how hard this is. Do the best that you can and I will follow the rules the club elects.
