Sapac L-39 EDF Unit: How To Tighten Fan

Fellows, being unfamiliar with EDF units, how do you tighten the fan on
the motor shaft without breaking the fan? I slide the fan onto the motor
shaft, hold the fan with my fingers, then use small crescent wrench to
tighten --the adaptor turns but does not tighten.

Secondly, are you supposed to glue the long black cone onto the rear of
the motor mount?

Appreciate any help. Thanks, LNLP

here ya go use a dremel or metal saw blade
this will aloud you to hold the shaft with a flat head screw driver while you tighten the bolt
happens with most fans also here is how I balance my fans post #27

Lav,, learn it from ED,Waldrep long time ago
Lnlp if you have the 2842mb-1 motor it doesn't use the tail tube
you have to cut 1/4 inch of the back of the fan housing
so the blue part of the motor sticks out

I'm amazed this part can't come from the manufacturer already machined. Same issue with the Wemotec mini fan. I don't have one but I've seen instructions for doing the same. That's why I liked the HET 6904 design with a collet and hex head screw. What about the cone? Wouldn't the motor get too hot enclosed within the cone?

Sapac L-39 Tornado outrunner

Eddie, my Sapac L-39 came with the Tornado 3200 KV motor. Does
anything need to be cut from the housing? If you cut off the end of the
housing for the motor, the cone does not fit.

What is the cone for? LNLP

don't cut it if you have that motor
I have the same motor with the tail cone so far no problems
the only thing I did was open the hole up more
as far as I know helps keep the turbulence down to give you better top end

I'm having trouble mounting my Neu 1112-1Y to the stock (I think) L-39 fan unit.

The 5 blade fan has a single screw at front center that tightens a collet around the motor shaft. However, I cannot get the collet small enough to tighten on the Neu shaft.

Anyone have any ideas or solutions?

Much appreciated.

The Neu motor has a 3.17mm shaft. The collet that comes with the fan is a 4mm for a MB1 motor. That is why it won't tighten. Sapac sells 3.17mm collets for the Sapac fan.

I like drilling a hole cross wise thru the shaft about a 1/8 inch diameter close to the end. That way you can hold the shaft with a equivalent size allen wrench. The screw driver slot isn't strong enough as the shaft is usually aluminium and quite soft.
