Slow Stick Help Please

Hey Everybody,

I am wanting to get my fisrt RC airplane to learn on. I have done a lot of reading on here and I have decided I want a GWS Slow Stick. I have put a shopping list together and if anyone has any comments/suggestions/help that would be very much appreciated.

I have a shopping list made up but not for sure if this is the best stuff to get or not.

Shopping List:

Slow Stick - http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...dID=GWSAE0018I

Motor/ESC - http://www.rchotdeals.com/Products/r.../2208_18a.html

Servos - http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...ec_Micro_Servo

Reciever - I have a JR R700 7ch Slimline that I will use

Transmitter - I have a JR 5ch transmitter I will use

Propellers - I read on a thread where a lot of people recommended these - http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...odID=GWSEP1260

Prop Saver - I was going to get a GWS prop saver but I read where those break a lot so I will just make my own out of a servo arm or such.

Battery - I am hoping this will work ( please tell me if it wont ) I have two Li-Po batteries + charger that I was wanting to use. The batteries are Esky 7.4V 800mAH 2-Cell Li-Po

I dont have the money to buy the stuff right now so I am saving up but in the mean time I will read some more and hopefully get some advice from you guys.

That setup looks about right down to the props and battery. You will need a 1500-2500 mah 2 cell to get the plane to balance right and get the power you need. That small 2 cell probably would just barely be enough, and only give you about 4-5 minute flight times, even on the stock motor. Also, your 12x6 prop selection is too large. You select a prop based on what the motor is rated for:

A2208/17 7 - 17 oz. 2xLi 10"x5" 3xLi 9"x5" 10 cells 8.5"x5"
A2208/12 7 -17 oz. 2xLi 8"x4.5" 3xLi 7"x4" 8 cells 8.5"x5"

Based upon this info, you need to use a 10x4.7SF prop on 2 cells, or an 8x4.7SF on 3 cells, otherwise you will overamp the motor and smaoke it and the ESC.

Can I recommend these servos from Heads Up RC. U.S. based, exceptional service, and darn good servos for $5.95.

Recommendation from RChotdeals is a 10x5 prop on 2s lipos, so the props you referenced will not work. They will likely draw too much current.
A2208/17 7 - 17 oz. 2xLi 10"x5" 3xLi 9"x5" 10 cells 8.5"x5"

Unless you are going to order several extra servos from hobbycity, it won't save you much because of shipping.

I recommend something in the range of 1500-2500 mah, 2 or 3 cell depending on prop choice.

What GD5015 is saying is that it's not going to save you money buying from Hobby City, unless you use the takes forever standard shipping. EMS shipping is $25, so unless you're buying 10 servos or more, it's not really worth it

Boomer the reason I PM-ed you was I knew you did a lot with slow sticks and I thought you could help me while other people help me on my thread. I guess I will just ask the questions on my thread and not PM you all the time and if you have an answer just post it.

Thanks everyone so far,
Nicholas

Q: Okay as for the motor boomer recommended I get this motor . . . http://lazertoyz.ncweb.net/24Gram.htm But I dont know what kind of props I should get for this motor.
A: Order the 3mm prop saver with that motor and you need 9 X 4.7 APC Slow Fly Props or GWS 9 X 4.7 Slow Fly Props.

Q: And for the battery should I get something like this . . . http://www.toysonics.com/loongmax-11...tery-pack.html
A: Good choice it will work great!

Updated Shopping List

Heres the updated shopping list

Shopping List:

Slow Stick - http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...dID=GWSAE0018I - $18.90

Motor/ESC - http://lazertoyz.ncweb.net/24Gram.htm - $27.50 ( do I get the 10 AMP ESC or the 15 AMP ESC ( no connectors?)

Servos - http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...(USA_Warehouse) - (4) $19.96 (the reason I got those vs. the ones i specified in the first shopping list is because it says it ships from somewhere in the USE and I figuread it would get here sooner)

Prop Saver - http://lazertoyz.ncweb.net/PropAdapters.html - $2.50 (the one in the bottom left)

Extra O rings - http://lazertoyz.ncweb.net/Props.html - $1.00 (on the bottom)

Props - http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...dID=GWSEP9047B - (4) $5.00

Battery - http://www.toysonics.com/loongmax-11...tery-pack.html - $21.99

Charger - The charger for my other Li-Po should work for this batt. it has a plug fo a 11.1V Li-Po batt. on it the item number for it is EK2-0851

TX- I have a JR one

RC- A have a JR one

Total without shipping - $96.85

Any comments/suggestions/help on this shopping list would be very much appreciated.

For the 3s lipo, you will need the 15 amp esc. With the 9x4.7 props, it shows it will pull 10 amps. You should always go a bit larger on the esc, especially the inexpensive ones. That setup should do you fine.
You will also want to pick up some of the bullet connectors.
