Question about Power Distribution Board

Hi Paul:

...got 2 of your compact BACs and they work well. Question 'bout the redundant battery distribution board that I want to try in a full house or big scale E-glider.

If I use one tap from the BEC (switching - good quality) that comes built into the ESC, can I simply run a Life into the other port of the distribution board? If the ESC blows up/shorts/smokes/overheats, would it/could affect the distribution board, or would the board do its job by auto switching to the LiFe. Asking this because I'd like to save the weight of a 2nd Life, if the main motor Lipo is powering a switching BEC already.

Hi there Lornecherry, sorry about the protracted delay in this reply...

If you put a schottky diode on the +ve line of the "spare" LiFe pack and the power out of the BEC, then yes, it could well work. The purpose of the schottky is to prevent the power sources pushing their way into each other. With the schottky diodes, what ever source has the higher voltage will win out.

Perhaps you can draw up a diagram to demonstrate your configuration?

LED flasher units

G'day Paul

I have just about fried all my old strobe units and was wandering if you have any thing in the pipe line for a strobe unite that can handle the 450ma or so that the 1m led strips consume. I am typically using about 6 of these led strips on my night flyers and had them spread over 3 of your strobe units providing quite a visual show but have had to resort to using a relay now which is pretty boring in comparison. Would it be possible to use your old strobe design driving say 3 of those 2 amp relays (more chanels would be better) and have it all on a common board.

Rgds Tony

Tony,

I'm sure I can modify the original design to cope with higher loads (new PCB).

Paul.

Tony,

Submitted the new design today - in a few weeks hope to have some good news.

New design uses a different chip, more flash memory, so I can program in some more features, might even be able to program in fade-in/fade-out. The MOSFETs on the new one will deal with 1A no problem. You'll still be able to use the existing programmer (serial). Lastly, I've added a 4th channel and the ability to switch between external power, or internal/RX power (obviously one has to be conservative with the RX option).

Just had the pleasure of finding a new switching MOSFET with about half the on resistance of the ones I was going to use ( 15mR vs 31mR ), which is GREAT. I'll likely wholesale change over to the new MOSFET which will reduce the wastage in a lot of my products which use the one I used to use before or planned to use ( BAC-ESJ6, PGMS8, BACALL and a couple of others ).
