5g 2000kv motor prop options needed

Hi all..

I have a 5g motor, 2000kv.

Props I have are
GWS 4.5x3
GWS 5x3
GWS 5x4.3
GWS 6x3


now i know the 6X3 is going to be too big for this guy.. but what about the rest..

So far ive tried the 4.5X3, this is borderline on the thrust.

So, does anyone have any experience / thrust / amp draw data on this motor?

Its currently in a depron 3d model i just built, weighing in at 60g (2 1/8oz?)

Nice little motor

SRosam1,
I have one of these or similar motors (from UH/HC) in a lightweight indoor delta, running a 4.5x3.
Model weighs just under 50gm and is very lively indoors, but not quite 3D power. Suspect static thrust near enough to 50gm also.
The motor is very happy with this prop, running barely warm, but I never use full power (too exciting in the gym). Current draw a bit under 2A, so you only need a 200 or 180 mAh pack (2 cell) to feed it - that might save a bit of weight?
Don't think I would put any more prop on it, though you could try the 5x3 perhaps.

Hi, thanks for the info.

I have got a 250mah 2s pack on it atm. Thats down from the original 350 2s.

Sounds like I will need to try the 5X3..
Or just put the 10gr motor back on and live with the weight..

Will get some pics done tonight.

The motor is almost perfectly propped at max power rpm with a GWS 5x3 prop. It won't be too much prop for it. You are correct a 6x3 is too much prop. Thrust is about 72g and amp draw 1.7A with a 5x3.

AHH.. perfect!

with my model being 60g, 72g thrust on the 5X3 will just what i need.

thanks alot.. ill be giving this ago tonight. weather and family permitting.

Well

My micro f3p weight 56 gr (5gr UH motor, 3*2,5bArrow, Ar6300, T6A and FRiver180mAh2S). IT DOES NOT GO VERTICAL with 5x3. It flys very well like a 3D plane not F3P (Hovering is limit)

So I┤m guessing something like 56 to 60 gr Thrust with my fullriver 2S180mAh

hmm.. do you think thats a limit of the 180mah cells? presumably theyre good for 1.8amps? ill let you know how i go with the 250mah FullRiver cells i have.

I used the HC one on 2x130mAh FullRivers with the 5x3 prop.
The FRs got warm but not hot. (on 3 cells its screams but the cells cant take it)
The 90mAh FR are a bit weak but might suffice if since i only used it on a 75 gram version of Morback.
Theres a few grams more for ya.
Down side is flyingtime thou.

okay... thanks for the data Gordon.

first.. I have attached a couple of pics of my model (my first ever attempt at something this small)


I tried the 5x3 and the 5x4.3, just testing the vertical pull out of my hand.
I didnt think either really had enough thrust to go vertical, however I didnt actually fly so they may be okay.

I also tried the 6x3, and that had plenty of thrust, but the ailerons dont have enough deflection to counter the prop torque.. (i think i need to free up the linkages somewhat), I felt the motor after the very short tests, and it was warm.. so after a flight I think the motor would be toast.. so I wont be using that again.

I think my next step is to fly it on the 5x4.3.

Things I could do to save weight include going for smaller cells. Currently on 2s 250 FR's.

Could go for falcon servos, but the outlay for a 1.6g saving seems silly at this point.

Could put the 10g (13 with mount) back on? that can swing the 6x3 and will give more than enough power! ;-) (easy option!)

Got a close up of the servo links for the ailerons?

I'm probably telling you what you all ready know but sometimes it helps with a little reassurance.

You may have to reposition the servo or make up a new control link with less resistance. Also, make sure your hinges for the Ailerons are almost free of any hinderence like the hinge tape being too thick, this can decrease servo performance.
For a plane this size they should be able to move up/down nice and freely when not hooked up to the servo link.

No.. im new to this.. But yeah i agree.. i think the heat shrink on the ailerons is deffo causing the servo to work too hard.. i have cut the outside of each bend and removed a little wedge, but i think i need to remove some more..

The actual hinges are pretty good imo. but could probably be better. Its mainly the rod links that are the issue.

What do you suggest doing with the aileron servo?

Are there many different versions of this motor?

I have one from indoor flyer, which is 5 gram without the motor mount, fitted in my nutball

I am using a 5*3 prop and 2 * Fullriver 180mA AUW just less than 50 gram.
It will fly vertical on far less than full throttle and do all sorts of scary loopy - rolley stuff.

maybe.. mine is from robotbirds, same as indoorFlyer i think.

maybe i need to loose some weight
The FR250s are 6.5g each, i could go to the 200s which ate 5.4g each, or 130s @ 3.6?

I could deffo lighten the servos (BA 2.4s all round).
How does one go about making such a small servo lighter?
