Ok The plane is done.

One thing that I did not touch upon earlier, is the hinging method I used. I was looking for my hinge tape, but I could not find it. So I used a method I have only used once with a scrap piece of foam to test it.

I used Hot glue. I put a generous amount down on the seem edge, and before it dried, I smeared the glue thin with a flat piece of scrap foam. It makes a really strong thin flexible joint.

I used adhesive Velcro strips to attach the battery and the receiver in the fuselage. I would have liked to mount them forward a bit more, but the wire length restricted me.

I decided to give the plane some permanent flaps on the bottom to force the air down, creating a better lift at the expense of some drag. I have a feeling that this one design change will make the difference from a GEV and a plane. I also added end plates to the ends of each wing.

I used small little ribs to hold the flaps in place. THIS IS THE BOTTOM

Showing the angle, I don't have anything to measure the angle with, but this shows it pretty well. NOTE THIS IS THE TOP

showing it from the front. THIS IS THE BOTTOM

Showing the ribs better along with side end plates THIS IS THE BOTTOM

Attaching the wing to the fuselage.

It is secure in the back now

Showing the front rubber band mount.

Rubber band attached

Better full side view

I want to be able to fly this on most any surface without the plane being chewed up, so I used part of a thin plastic cutting mat as the the skid plate which covers the entire bottom of the fuselage.

From the front

The plane balanced at 7 inches from the leading edge when it should be around 4 inches from the leading edge. All the electronics are in the rear of the fuselage, so I needed a bit of ballast.

For ballast I filled two bottoms of server containers full of lead shot, and glued a piece of foam on top to secure all the shot inside.

I used 10 ounces of shot.

The plane it self weight a total 30 OZ with the Ballast and 20 OZ without

I am going to test fly it tomorrow, it will be on video, so I will either have a cool success video or a crash video followed by a rebuild thread.

Can't wait to see it. I agree you've made a plane rather than a GEV. If you don't keep the speed down it's going to try to get out of ground effect fairly quickly. Although, the high thrust line is going to tend to keep the nose down. It'll be interesting no matter what happens. (That's easy to say when all you have to do is watch. )

I just wish I didn't suck at math.

The further it comes along the more I like it as a plane design. With tweaks it would make a wonderful AP!

It is still at my house. I am going to fly it this evening with MaxThePaco spectating.

I should have a video camera to film the event. I will try to post it later this night.

Well I crashed it, but it is not too bad, and only there was pretty much area of failure that caused the faliure in the first place.

The wing is fine and the control surfaces are fine.

I did get a video of it, and will upload it tomorrow.

I rebuilt it, and I think it was perfect, except for sliding parts I put on to be in contact with the ground. I have a pair of wheels that I think will work perfect for this.

I didn't crash it, the skids fell off.

I will see about the video uploading now.

And I just realized something, I do not have a video editor on my PC at the current time.

I am going to have to upload these on the weekend.

Although I will upload the pictures of my design.
