Man that thing did Tip Stall.

It was hard to tell, but was there zero wind?
Did you slow down too much?

Don

Hi Don,
Yea, I think there were a combination of factors causing the stall.
I wasn't quite used to how fast you have to fly it and I was moving down wind. The main factor was that I didn't have enough Ail>Rud mix. I added more and it turns much better now. I also changed the ail diff settings. I'm finding that CG is best between 87mm and 90mm... It is less prone to tip stall when CG is back around 90mm.

Hi Douglas,
I accidentally typed Edge on the title credits of the Gabby video... The edge is about a 49meg video... the GAbby video is only about 7megs ... here's the link to the gabby video again.. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1#post12164918

Craig,
Always make sure your tow hook is ahead of your cg.
1/8 inch should be fine. The further ahead the more stable your launch
but, less of an angle(not as much launch height)
From the vid you had no air speed and fell out of the sky.
Gabby is a very fun plane, but needs to fly faster than alot of sailplanes.
That speed means you get out of sink fast and from thermal to thermal
fast.....keep it moving.
Good luck

Hi Lance,
Thanks for the advice... I'm definitely learning that this one has to be flown fast... My hook is actually alittle too far forward, but i'm going help fix that with launch mode on my new JR 9303. I have been programing this evening and I like it so far. I will likely go out tomorrow, as we are supposed to have a really hot sunny day!

Craig, Now looking at the correct video, but what I see with Real Player is not a video but a series of about 10 still shots with a time delay between them. Is that maybe because I'm using Real Player do you think? Because of this I don't see the stall at all, it is lost somewhere in between the stills that I see. Douglas

Hi Douglas,
the video should be easy to view in Windows media player. I don't use realplayer, so I don't know about that.

Sorry, I don't know what's wrong... it works on all the computers I have used... It was authored with NTSC.... Your probably set up for PAL, but I wouldn't think it would just not play properly... Go back to the Gabby video thread and try the PAL version I just posted.. if that doesn't work, sorry...

Craig,
Did you ever get your Gabby sorted out? What did you settle on for CG and tow hook locations?

Hi Rocky,
That was a long time ago. I sorted the CG and flew it for about a year until I flew into some power lines that were much closer than they appeared... I got into some bad sink and the gabby will fall out of the sky if not enough airspeed in sink... so it vaporized and went to the lift gods in a cloud of black smoke... i was thinking to get another one, but I refuse to deal with NESail and i ended up getting a few other models anyhow. Beware, there are some gabby's on the market that are second quality. Even the first quality models were not that great... otherwise it was a pretty fast and challenging model to fly... needs strong lift to TD though... otherwise would be decent on the slope..
