I got the steerable tail wheel mounted today.

I'm just waiting for my RadicalRC vertical stab mount to get here, and than I can finish this beast.

Anyway, here's a ''naked'' picture of it...

The vertical stab mount arrived today.

Stay tuned for more build pics. I might be able to finish this tonight.

These parts from RadicalRC are awesome.

Their vertical stab mount both centers the vertical stab, AND makes the tail section VERY strong.

Here are some pics.

Ran into a problem

Well, I COULD have finished this plane tonight, but I ran into a problem with the steerable back wheel. The wire that I used was too thin, and when I assembled everything on the plane, it was bending way too much. So, tomorrow I will try to make it out to the LHS to pick up some thicker music wire. Anyway, this is gonna be heavier than I thought. I'm guessing it'll end up at around 35 ounces with a camera.

Oh, and the pics below show the plane in pusher configuration, and not tractor like I did a couple days ago. I still really haven't decided on which one I am going to choose yet. But I am leaning towards pusher.

Starting to look good. I gave it a go at making a camera mount, but pretty much mimicked the XPort mount. It's a little heavier, at 6.4oz, but I'm sure I could shave another ounce off with lightening holes. I also have to isolate the camera better... the mount is too loose on the fuse and the vibrations make it to the camera, causing distortion.

Oh, please, explain the head?

Hey guys,

Just a little update here. I fixed the steerable tailwheel problem by making the wire shorter. So that's no longer a problem. Now I am just having some trouble getting the CG right. Right now I am aiming at a little over 2 inches (about 27% of the wing's chord). I will probably get it right tomorrow by moving the battery forward, but i'm done for tonight (getting tired ). Once the CG is correct, I can maiden this thing.

Will upload some more build pics tomorrow.

And BTW, after some careful thinking, I have FINALLY decided that I am going to mount the motor in the front (tractor).

Here's a couple pics of the pushrod installation, and the steerable tail wheel mount.

Will post updated pics of the whole plane later on.

Alright, here's some pics of the almost finished plane.

The CG is good, and the maiden flight should be this weekend if the weather cooperates.

Looks like the maiden won't be this weekend.

Thunderstorms tomorrow, and 20-30mph winds on Sunday.

Good decision on the tractor. Balancing is difficult being wicked tale heavy in the pusher configuration. As long as I use a heavy camera I'm OK. Any of those pin cams will require me to add a lead weight to the nose. 6 1/2 ounces is what my camera weights. Anything less than that and I'll be moving around stuff.

Latest update.

Looks great Pudknocker! I like that paint scheme...

One of the reasons why I did not go pusher was due to the fact of mounting the camera or battery all the way forward to obtain the correct CG. If the maiden did not go well, I would want the motor to hit first instead of a LiPo (which could explode), or my $150 camera.

Anyway, I just watching your video, and your plane looks eager to fly. I'm sure it'll fly great.

Good luck on your maiden!

The plane is 99% finished now (just have to glue some pieces onto the fuselage).

I hooked the electronics up today, and they all work great.

And the motor has PLENTY of power. Two clicks of thottle, and this plane is already rolling.

I might be able to do the maiden tomorrow if the wind stays calm, and I don't have any plans.

Will let ya'll know.

Forecast calls for light and variable winds tomorrow, so I am charging up the battery now.

I hope the forecast is right because I really want to maiden this plane.

I love when the forecast is "light and variable." Of course, here in TN, forecasts generally don't mean a whole lot.

I've been watching your build for a while. Can't wait to see how the maiden goes.
