Nitroplanes X-29 build thread

Two X-29 jets showed up at my door yesterday. They came in large doubled boxes. I unpacked both kits and took inventory. Everything was there. I'm build one for Mike Pope and one for myself. I'll post some pictures in the morning. I already glued all the hinges in place and did a dry fit of most of the parts. No problems found. This is a large jet. We are going to use WeMoTec 90 mm Midi fans. Mike going with the Nue 1415/1.5 and I'm going with a Hacker B50-10XL or 13XL motor. We are keeping them fixed gear until after they have been flown to see if it is worth the trouble to install retracts. This plane takes 8 servos: 2 elevator, 2 ailerons, 2 canard, 1 rudder & 1 nose steering. Going to use a mixture of HS-81, 82 & 65 servos. I'm using a 2S A123 pack for the airborne system. For the money it not bad. Defiantly not BVM but not bad for $125.00. I'll try to answer any questions as we move along.

No inlet ducting. We are going with the inlet lip that comes with the Midi fan.

Bob, if you decide to go ahead with inlet ducting, I'd like to buy a set from you . 1 of your pix showed a good fit with a Haoye 4". What motor do you have in it? TIA!

Just got to see the plane up close and it looks real nice. Good size, everything seems to fit good. I just ordered the 90mm midi fan w/ the neu 1415 1.5y(from jethangar hobbies) for 8s (xps 30c). Should be a good combo. Balance is my only concern, but there is plenty of room to move things around.

mpope, I agree lots of room if intake ducting & retract mains omitted; plus not using flying stabilator, although latter can be accomodated with current exposed control linkage arrangement. A tad small if all these are included.

Yes, it will get cramped real fast. We are gonna go with fixed gear and see how it flies, then add the retracts. I found some info on the plane and all 3 struts retracted foward, which hopefully can be done. I like to keep things as scale as possilble. I am really getting excited to see how this model flies, it should have that wow factor in the air.

IIRC the full scale version used F-16 retract mains. There are a few such out there, eg Tam's; but don't know if enuf room below the fan can be found to accomodate same?

Bruff & Mpope1,

I also just received my Nitroplanes X-29. I plan to use the TJ100 from Tam Jets. Here is the link:

Here is a link to some various jets using the TJ100:

After having seen the videos, I really believe that it will make the x-29 go like a rocket with the Nue 1415/1.5 & an 8S pack.

Here is another link that may be of some help:

Hope this helps. I will be watching this thread closely.

Your gonna need some inlet ducting to really get the most out of that fan. Not trying to rain on the parade but just being realistic.
