Things are starting to get back to normal at work so now I have some time to get to back to doing the things I like. Unfortnately, the weather in the Pacific Northwest is still cold and rainy so I can't do the glassing and finishing work on the Fury so I decided to start on the F-18. I will work on the F-18 until the weather gets better, then I will switch back to the Fury.

Demensions of the F-18 are:
Length -- 97 inches
Wingspan -- 72 inches

The first step is to build the elevator shaft bearing boxes. The top, bottom, and sides are epoxied together making sure everything stays squared.

Next is to glue the elevator shaft bearing boxes to the formers.

The holes for the elevator shafts were drilled into the side of the fuse. The formers were placed into the fuse and a long 5/16 aluminum shaft was used to line up the bearings with the holes in the fuse. Then the formers were hysoled in place.


To give reference to the size of the fuse, the last photo shows the fuse standing on it's tail.

I see your just down the road from me I too am just about to start a Yellow Aircraft plane myself. It is a F4-E and like yours it is huge. I have the power setup and retracts and most everything just waiting on a couple thing and then the fun will begin. Looks like your off to a great start!

Ron I agree, it has been slow around here. Where did all of the builders go? I guess they got tired of all the bickering and school yard antics that have taken over this place.

I have narrowed the power systems down to two choices but I won't reveal them yet because it seems that anytime someone mentions a brand of fan it starts a fan war.

Hi Andrew,

I've narrowed the choices down to two setups. They both put out over 5kw so which ever one I go with, the F-18 will have over 10kw of power.

Did you get a chance to maiden the Aggressor yet?
