need help w O.S. Max 28F

Would anyone know how I can set up the mixture on this
engine. Seems someone played with it before I bought
it and not been able to get it to start for me. I was
even told someone had played with the adjustment, and
don't have a clue how to set it. Even if I could get
it to run then I could adjust it from there.
Any ideas!

Thanks in advance

I'm not familiar with this particular engine, but for what its worth....

O.S. engines in general seem to be happy on about 1.5 turns out on both needles
(happy enough to start anyway).

Assuming you have two needles (one main needle sticking out, and the idle
probably in the end of the rotating throttle barrel):-

Wind both needles in carefully, then out 1.5 turns on the main needle, and 1
turn on the idle screw.
Apply starter, and slowly wind out the idle screw until it fires. Stop if you
get to 5 turns cos its probably past the point of firing by then (check plug
etc).

Watch for fuel out of the exhaust. If unburnt fuel comes out, its too rich, so
wind one or both needles in a touch (eighth at a time).

If it fires turn it another 1/8 out and see if you can keep the engine running.
As you move the throttle up it will then move onto the main needle. If the
engine just dies, its probably too lean. If it smokes and chugs then its
probably too rich.

other things to keep in mind... dry the glow plug regularly by taking it out.
While its out make sure it still glows with power applied.
Up-end the engine to drain any excess of fuel out of the glowplug hole

If the tank is pressurised, put your finger over the exhaust outlet for a few
seconds to blow more air into the tank, and therefore more fuel into the
engine.

errr....

oh and don't run your receiver battery down so far that when the engine does
start, you take off with no battery power (yes I've done that once!)

Its a bit 'seat of the pants', so if anyone else can contribute...feel free :-)

refer to = "Carburettors, Tuning & Performance Testing, Glow Plugs."
under the group heading "Engines,Plugs,Tuning, Petrol, Turbines, Mufflers,
Cleaning, Anodising etc" at http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~atong/ . If still
unsure, email direct for specific instructions for that carburettor.

Turn both needles in completely, check through air inlet, and the opening in
carb should be approx 0.5 mm at idle ,turn main needle out 1.5 to 2 turns
out, then attach fuel line to fuel inlet and blow through fuel line and at
same time turn out fuel mxture screw until just about when you are able to
blow thru fuel pipe, now the engine should start and you can then fine tune
the engine, i hope it all makes sense

Thanks for some good ideas, I will give them a try and
see what happens.
Thanks Again
