what Is black with white wire? red or black?

I have a charger I am trying to put deans on, one wire is solid black and the other is black with white? Is a black and white wire considered red?

If you have a multimeter you can answer your own question. If you don't have one, get one, you need it. If you live in the US, Harbor Freight sells them for as little as $3.00.

Turn the charger on.
Turn the meter on.
Set the meter to read voltage.
Carefully touch the meter probes, black to the black wire, red to the b/w wire.
If the display shows a positive number, black is negative, b/w is positive.
If the display shows a negative number, black is positive, b/w is negative.

I don't believe there is a standard. I have a wall wart charger with black and black with white stripe wires. The black (without stripe) is positive (red).

If you have a voltmeter, it is easy to determine. No voltmeter? Beg or borrow one - better yet buy one, even a cheapie. If you are into electric flight, you need one.

While not always true, the bulk of the units have the black wire with the white stripe as the positive lead.

The stripe usually indicates center lead rather than polarity.

I agree that the stripe on the wire is no assurance that is the positive wire. I thought as the poster above hinted at that it is more just a way to keep the wires identified from one end to another. I could be wrong but would never chance it.

You really need a cheap digital voltmeter to fly electric in my opinion. This is both important and a real requirement as time goes by. A cheap meter pays it's way in so many ways over the years as well. Saving you a substantial amount of both frustration and money again just in my opinion.

Interesting. The wall wart I checked in post #3 is JR - so that checks. The stripe is negative and the center of the coaxial connector.
